    2 3/4" Turkey Loads

The only "shortfall" I have in my 870 is its 2 3/4" chamber. It has an extended forcing cone, threaded chokes, and it works great for everything I do - only thing is, I've only found ONE type of turkey load made for the "normal size" chamber - it seems everything is 3" - 3 1/2" long nowadays...

    Who makes a Lefty semi-auto?????????

What exactly are you looking for in a "left-handed" rifle? The ejection port on the other side? Controls you can easily manipulate left handed? If you don't need the bassackwards ejection port, I would say to go with an "inch" FAL. The only thing you can't manipulate "stock" is the...

308 MBR fans:magazine and ammo carry for field use?

I shoot a FAL, so all these are FAL related - they should be close for other .308 MBR's: For only two mag loads (or four, if you wear two), it's hard to beat the plain old Austrian leather belt mounted pouches DSA sells. For 3-gun and other "speed" stuff, I cut the flaps off for easier...

    Barrel Cleaning

Why chlorinated brake cleaner? Will the non-chlorinated stuff work (I have bunches of that already)?

    IDPA Resignation

This is the first I've heard of this - was there a safety concern or something (Uncle Mike's not reliably or safely holding pistols), or is IDPA just run by the more expensive holster makers? I can see disallowing a clip-draw..........

    Barrel Cleaning

On my 18.5" 870 barrel, I've cleaned for the longest time with only a boresnake. After I had the forcing cone lengthened and screw-in chokes installed, I've looked down the barrel more often, and noticed some residue that doesn't want to come out. I bought a cleaning rod and brush, and was...

.243 or .308...Which caliber bolt for range?

I agree with the "squirrel" above. .308 is the way to go - you lose a BUNCH of barrel life with .243, along with downrange "power" (moot point if you're only shooting paper), and only gain a little flatter trajectory and a little less felt recoil. Go with the .308, shoot it until the...

Which Forend Sling Plate for 870?

'98 - I'd go with the mag cap swivel, but that means I have to lose my mag extension, which I don't want to do. I do really like your bayo mount/clamp, and think that would be the best solution out there......but I think I could get another 870 for what that would cost me! Unless of course...

Shot my "riot gun" in Sporting clays - and WON!!!!

Thank you, sir - That rear thing is a windage-adjustable ghost ring sight I milled from a block of steel. It is very loosely patterned after the CQB portion of the AR-15 rear sight. The front sight is loosely patterened after the HK MP-5 front sight, with a beefed up ring, and the...

Shot my "riot gun" in Sporting clays - and WON!!!!

I've had some requests for pics of the abovementioned 870 - like I said, it's nothing special looking. I just made the mentioned modifications, and refinished it with Gunkote over fresh parkerizing.

Which Forend Sling Plate for 870?

"I was hesitant with it as it eats up a chunk of the thread area for the magazine cap. I worried about it working its way off during firing. " This was my only concern with these type sling attachements - did you every fire it enough to test it out?

Which Forend Sling Plate for 870?

I've had a clamp up front as a sling attachment point up front, but I can't get it to stop sliding up the barrel with use. I don't see buying an entire new magazine extention and clamp (like the Remington model) to stop this problem, so I'm in the market for a "plate". Brownell's shows a few...

Agreed - that's a G1 (one of the earliest FAL versions used in Germany) BFA.

Scope and mount for Ruger Superblackhawk

What's the best scope and mount to put on a 10 1/2" bbl Ruger Super Blackhawk in 44 Mag? Gun use will be primarily hunting, but would be used for plinking and pest control as well.....

Shot my "riot gun" in Sporting clays - and WON!!!!

I had to have Tru-choke Thinwall threads put in because of my barrel OD - I think my chokes are all Colonials.

Shot my "riot gun" in Sporting clays - and WON!!!!

A few guys from work invited me to shoot some sporting clays with them the other day, and never having done so (only shot skeet a trap once or twice), I thought it'd be neat to try. I show up with my 18" 870, complete with sidesaddle, sling, and ghost ring sights and catch some major ribbing...

    CCW guns used in competition

I always shot my CCW piece. There's no reason you can't keep up with a G27 - it'll do fine. I shot a stock G27 for a long time and was right there with most. Now I shoot a G30. I don't think you would ever notice the accuracy difference between the compact and the extended slide length...

    Holster for a Ruger SuperBlackhawk

Sorry - it's got a 10 1/2" barrel, and he mostly uses it for "field use" - carries it while walking his 60 acres. He's out and about in all kinds of weather, from the hottest of the summer in TN to the cold winter, so it'd be nice if it were flexable enough to be used over a t-shirt or heavy...

    Holster for a Ruger SuperBlackhawk

I'd like to get my father-in-law a holster for his .44 Mag Ruger Superblackhawk, and don't know where to look. He seems to prefer some kind of shoulder holster type. Any suggestions? What works for you? What to avoid?

    An Alternative to Patterning Boards.....

I use a roll of butcher paper and several small black dots (aiming points). I don't understand how so many people can not pattern their shotgun - not patterning your shotty is like not sighting in your rifle.......
