    Flintlock confusion.....

+1 for the Pedersoli Blue Ridge flinter. It's a Kentucky style, shoots straight, and Cabela's has 'em on sale for $629 (fits your budget). It doesn't come with a flint, so you'll need to buy that, and other accessories, separately.

    CMMG 22lr Conversion Kit(Stainless) Question

My stainless CMMG seems to run with everything I try, even sub-sonics. Very accurate in my S&W 15T (1/9). Currently, I've shot hundreds of Win Dynapoints, with 99.9 % reliability.

    surplus rifle hunting

Ian, did you read the Surplus Firearms article on the Swedish 41B Mauser? Pretty interesting. Anyway, back to surplus hunting - I'm trying to get each of my surplus rifles out in the field, at some point. So far, I've got a hog with my Garand, a hog with my M-1 Carbine, a coyote with my 91/30...

    .223 for pigs?

The last 5 hogs that I've shot have been with an AR in 223, using the Sierra 65 gr GameKing bullet. All head shots @ 100 yds, all one-shot kills. I usually aim between the eye and ear, if it's a side shot, or between the eyes, if it's head-on. Frankly, I've been surprised at how effective it's...

Any real experience with 30 AR Rem ??

If you're interested in a 30 cal, take a look at the Olympic Arms Gamestalker upper in 300 OSSM. It'll fit your AR-15 lower, and is ballistically equivalent to a 30-06 (way more horsepower than the 30 Rem).

7.62x25 JSP: Replacing pulled milsurp FMJ with commercial JSP

Neat project. Just be sure to use the same weight bullet, or lighter. I've used the same technique to make hunting rounds out of (brass) milsurp FMJs for my Mosin Nagant and Mauser, substituting a lighter SP bullet for the FMJ. Works great.

    Huber Triggers

The Huber trigger that I put in my Mosin Nagant made a significant improvement in pull weight. A bit of inletting of the stock was required, but it's easy to do. I installed a second Huber on a friend's M-N and got the same results - a significant improvement.

Anyone know what animal this is?

DeepSouth Unfortunately, I've already tossed my "Woods n Water", but as best as I can remember, they used the same pic as post#6. The online version of the magazine didn't have it, as you discovered. I'll try to find a copy on the news stand later today and I'll PM you if I'm successful.

    Sharps 1874

Congratulations on your new acquisition. I got to shoot an 1874 (in 45-70) for the first time last summer and really enjoyed it. Now, I'm saving my pennies. If it weren't for a 'good deal' on a Swiss K-31 that came my way, I'd own a Sharps by now. I hope to join the club soon. Nice gun!

    Model 1 Sales Reviews

I bought a complete varmint rifle kit (with a few upgrades) in .204 Ruger, and I'm 100% satisfied. It's an awesome rifle, and it's every bit as accurate as my .204 bolt gun. I'd buy from them again.

Anyone know what animal this is?

The Feb. issue of Woods n Water magazine (FL) ran that picture and said it had definitely been identified as a hairless raccoon, with mange.

Breaking in the Tikka 6.5x55: Hogs :)

I like your new break-in procedure. You may be on to something : shoot a hog, clean the barrel, shoot a hog, clean the barrel... Good shooting.

    Red dot for AR

The red-dot sights are great for what they were designed for - man size targets. Most cover 3 or 4 MOA. Even the EOTec, with a 1 MOA dot, would cover 2" at 200 yds. Not what you need for p-dogs. Best to just use a scope with a fine reticle, although the illuminated dot reticle idea that was...

    Boar Hunting.

F.Y.I. Ron's Guide Service is a "canned" hunt. You are driven to a fenced acreage, where one hog per customer has been released. You then "hunt" for a hog.

    7.62x54r Reviews

The Bulgarian ammo that Sportsman's Guide sells is very high quality. Accurate & reliable. If you're hand loading, every rifle is a bit different and you'll have to experiment. For example, my rifle likes .311 bullets, but is inconsistant with .308's. My friends rifle, on the other hand, will...
