A very stiff hammer on a Dam Wesson .357 super Mag?

I already read that shooting .38 special and .357 mag rounds in a .357 super mag workd fine, sort of like shooting .22 shorts in a .22 long rifle (but not quite!)... I had an older cousin of years ago who shot rats in his barn with an old octagon barreled .22 long rifle "Iver Johnson"...

A very stiff hammer on a Dam Wesson .357 super Mag?

I acquired a "Dan Wesson .357 Super Mag" a while back, that looked like new except having a DING on the wooden grip, at an unbelievably low price, but I later discovered that the hammer was very difficult to cock and with a very very stiff trigger in double action mode. Can anyone suggest what...

Who makes the best 357 revolver?

Personally, I might recommend finding a local shooting range where you can rent or even borrow numerous handguns to test fire. Chances are good that only one will be best for you and keep all shots in the 10 ring.

    Revolver cylinder slack when locked

I was concerned about the slight cylinder slack with the hammer back, but one gunsmith told me that mine was within normal tolerance. Now I'm wondering what normal tolerance is and how it can be tightened? Anyone experienced in this area?

    Police Guns

my 2 cents worth,,, I think the first regular issue New York City Police weapon was the Colt .32 New Police, in the year 1895 by them Police Commissioner Theodor Roosevelt. Before that year, Policemen were responsible for supplying their own arms. As you might imagine, each Policeman had a...

New (to me) Model 10-8 (with pics)

Fantastic! Those 4 inch barreled models were usually favored by police, back when revolvers were carried. When I was shooting competitively, the 4 inch barreled revolvers beat all others in rapid fire and timed fire, in slow fire the 6 inch barrels and 8 inch barrels came out ahead. That's a...

    Small revolver models

Small revolvers are not as popular as they should be, for some reason. I have read that back in the mid 1800's, Colt sold more little .31 pistols to the civilian market than all other calibers combined, to the civilian market, and by a pretty good margin. The New York police departments first...

    .22 rangetime and pregnancy

Who was the pregnant woman who took all the honors at the National big bore match's some years ago? And didn't the daughter she was carrying at the time, grow up and replace her mother at the Nationals? She also won the NOW woman of the year award, in addition to her shooting cups. I'll...

    H&R American Bulldog

Rather interesting. My grandmother said that her three older brothers had acquired three "Reddog" revolvers around 1901 or so, because of the "Hole-in-the-wall" gang which was not that far away and had a reputation of capturing a ranch house with a full cellar and a full smoke house of good...

    handgun for .22 short

I like my new but used Beretta .22 short, but I am still practicing to get it to hit a rats eye at 30 feet. I paid $200.00 for mine.

    S&W M-57, 4" barrel

Send the piece back to the Smith and Wesson repair shop. I did that and it was free and the repair was excellent.

    Arminius HW357

I bought an Arminius HW.357 and I am extremely impressed. Testing factory loads, I rattled through 175 rounds in 5 round groups, at 25 yards, using a sand bag wrist rest. Testing factory 158 grain .357, 10, 5 shot groups, the worst was 2.5 in. the best was 1.9 inch, with an average just...
