armor piecing "military bullets" in Austin area, Texas report

They arrested him for pointing a rifle at the kids head, not the mag full-o green tips, IMHO. Kids pull a disorderly conduct stunt, and this guy goes all Rambo on them with his AR. The cops had nothing to charge the guy with, but police officers don't like being lied to(bb gun my ASS!!). Plus...

    10.5" + 5.5" reasoning?

If you plan to SBR it, then the barrel/ long brake makes sense. Just unsolder, or unpin the brake from the barrel(after you get the stamp), and you are good to go:). In any other situation, it's purely for the aesthetic I would assume.

    Why a collapseable stock AR?

Why not... 'Nuff said!! But, I use mine at different lengths depending on if I'm using the magnifier knock-off or just the Eotech... The magnifiers eye relief changes what is comfortable. Still 2 Many Choices!?

Need to clarify pronunciation of Hoppe's.

Didn't read it all but since we appear to be venting about mispronounciation.... This is not pronounced as Guwwer, it is Ga-vehr... A little part of me dies everytime I hear it:(.

    Useful or mall ninja?

A GOOD vest, is like a clean work bench... A place for everything, and everything in it's place:D!! Having said that, I don't own one, but the above looks cheap.... Still 2 Many Choices!?

So here's my problem with optics on an AR-15.

Don't forget about sight offset at close ranges( read as under 25 yds/m). I have to aim really high with irons at home defense ranges... With the eotech, I just place the lowest point at the bottom of the reticle on target and squeeze. Much easier than aiming with the gas block:)!!

The power of a .50 cal Desert eagle taken from a Drug raid.

Drugs and guns are bad, mmkay? Know what drugs and guns have in common? They are the litmus test of true freedom in a society. A test we are failing:banghead:!! Still 2 Many Choices!?

Not so tall guys - what do you carry?

5'6" usually carry Glock 23, or a 1911 Colt Commander... Or both :).

9 mm FMJ Point Blank Gunshot Wound (Warning - GRAPHIC PICS!!)

Just looking at the pics.... It looks like you used the "rookie take down method" of take firing grip with right hand, place muzzle into the meat of left hand(left hand thumb parallel and opposite the ejection port), then pushed the slide rearward while pulling the trigger, which normally leads...

9 mm FMJ Point Blank Gunshot Wound (Warning - GRAPHIC PICS!!)

They must not be teaching "The Glock Grip" any more as the sop for takedown? Four fingers on top of frame just in front of the rear sight, thumb on the back strap below the rails... Thumb pushes the direction of bullet travel, while fingers leverage backwards against the rear sight.

exact same situation here, I use the Eotech with beautiful results. I agree the co-witness through the rear sight helps...

I'm such an idiot, how can I tell if my bore is scratched?

BenEzra: You going to call everyone else for joking about the AK's reputation as innacurate, or just me? Guess I should have used a :) , :D! For any AK(even a century WASR), to shoot that poorly(only accurate to 50 yards) you'ld have to a) have canted sights, b) no experience with the...

    Shooting Video Games?

"Full Spectrum Warrior", was the army training game that made use of a four man fire team to complete your missions. Great for basic mout ideas you don't experience on the one-way range like 360 situational awarness, cover vs. concealment, degradation of cover, fixing and flanking a target...

I'm such an idiot, how can I tell if my bore is scratched?

First off, it's an AK, who cares if the bore is scratched? Its a 50 yard gun anyway Lol. Now that I got that out of the way, I use the flashlight method. Works on all my rifles. If you slug the barrel( I assume the soft lead is pulled all the way through ), you will only see the threads at the...

    Rifle/Carbine Attachments

Paharin, I think he knows the difference between carbine and mid-length system, and wants to know why so many people here prefer the supposedly inferior(increased preassure curve, more violent/vigorous extraction, faster parts wear, and so on...) carbine system, when the mid-length is...

    Rifle/Carbine Attachments

Mid-length gas systems are still comparitively new(what 2-3 years now?). I bought my m4gery in 2003 before the mid length option existed. If I had it to do again, I would still go with the carbine gas system. The short gas system just looks correct to me now.

    Rifle/Carbine Attachments

The Light, Eotech, and Buis are always on the weapon... Sometimes vertical grip, and sometimes a magnifier, just depends on my mood. The vertical grip is really over kill for my needs, and like so many free handgun locks, it's probably going into the gun drawer... Guess I'm a 3, or 3+ guy.

S.C. Sheriff's Department Armored Vehicle with Belt-Fed Machine Gun

Bigger Hammer: Got two words for ya ,"collateral damage". In a military setting, you do your best to limit it. In a civillian context, you had better mitigate civillian casualties or else!! Problems with this purchase, are as follows: 1. Too much gun for police applications... 2. Impossible to...

S.C. Sheriff's Department Armored Vehicle with Belt-Fed Machine Gun

From a liability stand point, this is idiotic!! A .50 will shoot through most common buildi g construction, even in non AP form. So who advocates using a weapon known to be excessive, just as a show of force? Not a personal attack, but sounds pretty stupid to me... Right tool for the right job...
