I am interested in this but am worried about the date of manufacture. Is this one of the older Piettas that seemed to have problems or one of the newer ones. Sorry I am new to the site and don't know how to PM yet. Thanks John

BBG, I've read your posts about having to part with your pieces. It's a damn shame you need to do it, but reality is reality.:cuss: I only hope things turn around for you in the very near future.

I just bought this .36 Cal, Spanish Dueling pistol on Gun Broker. The previous owner is a nice, retired fellow who used to own or manage a couple of guns shops. He retired 10 years ago and is clearing out some of the stuff that followed him home from work over the years. He had this one for quite a few years and hated to let it go. But I assured him the Spanish Lady had found a good home. Several older fellows I have talked to bought their weapons back in the 80's for a couple of hundred dollars and now with the passing of time are selling them. Good news though the prices have gone up,

It doesn't look like a dueling pistol to me. First off, the caliber. Dueling pistols were generally large caliber (.45 and up and smoothbore) Secondly, most do not carry a ram rod as the seconds loaded the guns and the shooters never reloaded the guns. Third, it has the look of a Kentucky or Pennsylvania pistol to it. Where is it's matching twin?

Junkman...I agree...it looks like a cut-back Kentucky pistol...interesting though that it's in .36 caliber. I'm curious as to who produced it.

It's manufactured by Mendi, a Spanish Company who went out of business years ago. Most dueling pistols were of course a heavier caliber. Maybe this was for some limp wristed, soppy Don who didn't want to deal with the recoil. Who knows?

LOL.. It just got mailed today, so I will have it by Saturday. I'll pull it apart and take some photos of the markings and we shall see.

Maybe I got ripped but, What the heck.
