The compact (is that what they call the youth rifle now?) barrel is 16" as opposed to 18" for the standard carbine. The only difference when swapping it into a different stock is the 2" difference in bbl length.
I bought a Ruger 10/22 CRR -compact- for my son. I liked the shorter barrel so much I found one a guy had taken of his new rifle and I put it on my 10/22. Easy to swap barrels.
It fit right into my Ramline Winter Camo stock I found on fleabay.
