Was in a gun store a while back to pick up my new CZ 452 Varmint and noticed a cool gun in the counter case. It was a Ruger 10-22 action with a short barrel and a pistol grip, with a nice bi pod. What was that called? Didn't seem too practical but I can't get it off my mind. Haven't been back since as this place is out of the way. But I think I want one. Anyone own one of these, and how are they? Thanks.

they are called a ruger charger. I dont have one but a guy i work with has one. He said it was a fun gun. It really is practical to hunt with but for plinking its awesome. He said that the trigger is not great. I would not mind having one!

I agree with our new member 98falstaff that the Charger certainly merits consideration as a plinker. Apart from welcoming him to the forums, I also suggest that he might benefit from using our serach function. God knows that it has helped me. Once again, welcome to our community.

I've heard of the Charger; not my thing, really. Ruger has other excellent .22 pistols that would make good plinkers or hunters. But, hey, whatever floats your boat. You might be able to wring a bit more accuracy from the Charger, I suppose.

Thanks for the search suggestion now that I know that it's called a Charger. I have several nice plinkers, a MK II w/10 in. BBL that I got new for $175 back in 1985, a SS 22-45 w/ 5in,BBL, S&W 617 10 shot 6 in. CZ 452 varmint, among others. Just when you think you have all you need something cool comes along. I've never used a handgun scope, what are some good types or sizes to look into for this beast? Thanks for your replies.

Just used the search on the Charger, plenty of reading on opinions and optics. Thanks.

The man yelled "Alchohol Tobacco and Firearms!" Hell, I thought he was making a delivery!

I have one and like it. It goes to the range with me everytime I go. Fun to shoot. I have a cheapo Tasco reddot on mine. Even with the cheap reddot , mine is boringly accurate at 50 yards. Always gets plenty of looks from other shooters. No regrets in buying mine.

Another Charger owner. They are a lot of fun for plinking and could be very useful for pest control like any other 22. Any of the aftermarket 10/22 hop up parts like triggers, bolts, etc will work on it. Mine currently has a Tactical Solutions threaded barrel and is used with a Gemtech Outback suppressor. Always gets a lot of attention when I go to shoot.
