hunting deer in IL is mostly a shotgun / slug kinda deal

sometimes when hunting all bundled up against the cold the 14" LOP stock seems kinda long.

Anyone tried the 12" LOP Hogue Overmolded ones? How was the 'balance' with the longish 24" Mossy Slug barrel?

Wonder if the shorter stock would come in handy in case of zombie / velicoraptor attack

I use the Knoxx adjustable stock for that reason. Hunting turkeys in Fl. with a shirt on or hunting deer in Canada with a snowsuit on.

thanks Kanook - adjustable stock would be a great answer but I think they're a little to tacitcool for some of the property I'm a guest on

I will admit I get looks when I put the muzzleloading barrel on it. Usually when people ask "why?", and I explain, they kinda agree. It's kinda like how the AR style platform is becoming more accepted as a hunting rifle.

I have the 12" Hogue stock on home defense Mossberg 500 Mariner. Balance is fine, though the barrel is only 18.5" on my gun.

thanks Dave - sometimes ya gotta wonder about the 24" barrel that Mossberg decided to go with

kanook - I hear ya - but there are some nice older sister who've been very gracious in allowing me to hunt their property (amazing how sitting on the porch and chanting for an hour or so with older folks well get you all sorts of consideration)

I understand that. The world would be a better place if we would stop and listen for a moment.

My stock also has the recoil reduction for my shoulder problems, helps with the visual for "I need it" vs "man this thing is kewl"

true dat kanook - and they make really awesome meatloaf sandwiches ...

For the same price you could probably get the current stock shortened. Gander Mountain or any gunsmith can do it for about $40-50. Seriously, if you have the patience, you could do it yourself. I have and while not a perfect Purdy/Holland fit, it is very servicable and looks good and the stock didn't need to be refinished.

I have one. Just remember to put your thumb up on top of the stock or you will get the thumb into your cheek.

I've got a short Hogue on an 870, they're shaped and textured nice but they're built pretty thin and are light enough to effect the balance somewhat.

I cut mine down with a jigsaw or a sawzall and flattened it out with a beltsander. Bout a 12.5 LOP.

I already stippled my stock, and had the tools.

I have a 20" 590, dont know how it would affect the balance of a 24" gun...
