My wife has fairly weak hands/arms.
I went to "gunsprings.com" and searched around for the "factory strength" recoil springs, thinking that would help me figure out which semi-auto's would be easiest to rack.

The PT-92/99 series is listed at 13 lbs, which seems to be one of the lowest out there. (Obviously, I'll get her to try this and several others). (The beretta 92 is also 13 lbs). Many other guns were above 20 lbs. I had her push on a bathroom scale, one hand on each side, and she briefly got it above 20 lbs, but 13 was well within her capabilities.

Does this agree with people's impressions that the Taurus PT92/99/Beretta 92 has a fairly easy slide to rack? Or is there any other factor that I'm not recognizing?
Thanks,
Gordon

I would say it is pretty easy...maybe due to its locking system...different than Sigs, Glocks, Rugers, etc. My wife has no problems. But the gun's size often causes other problems for women, who may have smaller hands...its a big gun.

If you change out the spring you will have to re-run your defense ammo to make sure it will still cycle reliably. 200 rounds, error free.

I have not yet met a female who can't handle any slide when shown how to rack it correctly. It's not a matter of strength, it's a question of what they are used to. Have her hold the gun in front of her chest pointing dead ahead. Have her grip the rear of the slide with the left hand and then push the gun forward, while holding the slide close. It's easier to push the gun than pull the slide.

not planning to change the spring; the FACTORY spring is supposed to be only 13 lbs. I got my wife to go to the store today and she easily racked the slide AND was able with one thumb to release the slide release also....success.

We tried one other gun and she was NOT able to so easily rack its slide.

I had her do the "push" sort of thing and that worked well for her. I tested at home and had her "push" on a scale and found she could easily get to 15 lbs and could with effort go over 20. So the factory 13 lb spring was quite manageable. The large gun offers her a good grip on the slide, also

thanks
