hello I am new here and new to handguns/blackpowder. i just bought my first pistol a 1858 new army with 5 & 1/2 barrel. I am looking into buying a conversion cylinder. I have done lot of reading on this but I am still not shure on what to buy ACP or long colt I understand i would need to buy cowboy loads for the LC is this also the case with ACP? I only ask beacuse the fps on LC cowboy loads looks to be about the same as factory ACP or does FPS not have anything to do with why i need to buy cowboy ammo? also it seems Kirst is out of stock on almost everything so i may be getting a r&d 6 shot from midway. my question about the R&D is does it have a safety notch to set the hammer on? or do i just have to cary 5 rounds and use a empty chamber as my safety? also what is cheaper to shoot LC or ACP. thanks for any help

ACP is cheaper to shoot. If you handload, you can load them to very low pressures.
I also have the 5.5" '58 and love it.

I have the 8 inch remmy with a six round R&D 45 long colt or now I guess Howells old west conversion. It didn't have any safety notches so I carry the hammer under an empty chamber. I love it so I'm sure the 5.5" is just as good.
