I just purchased a 1903 Spingfield from CMP and it is flat out nice. It does have a problem I don't know how to fix. The windage adjustment knob turns but the srew does not move with it so I have no adjustment. Apparently the knob was originaly connected to a thresded cap that turned the srew which in turn moved the sight. The sight won't move so I can't get to the crew. How do I replace it? anyon e ever have this? If so what do I do!:banghead:

How to take that out. Well, if it was working right, you screw it over until the sight piece moves past the holder (the lip at the butt end of the sight).
Before you give up on the screw (if it is stripped, you may have to contact CMP and see if they will replace it), can you move the sight on the swival?
I have seen it quite often where the lip (on the butt end) that goes over the sight piece that moves left and right is crimped down and will not let the sight move. If it is not stuck there, try pushing the sight to the left while turning the screw (counter clockwise I think) and see if you can get it to come out from under that lip. Basically, it will slide out from under the lip (again, butt end) and that disengages it from the screw (on the barrel end) and it just lifts out.

Thanks. No offense guess I'm frustrated and not very good at explaining things. I know how the sight comes off under normal circumstances. However what I'm trying to explain is that when I turn the windage adjustment knob, neither the windage screw or the sight moves. Somehow the knob and the part of the knob that engages the screw have seperated (it must be a two piece assembly) . Now how do I remove the sight and replace the knob. Hopefully someone has experienced this and has an answer.

Oh by the way that is good advice on contacting the CMP. I plan on doing that Monday.

Sorry, I guess I did not read carefully. I thought it was not engaging the threads. You are saying the knob turns, but nothing else. No experience with taking that apart, but I have taken mine out (got three and just took the sight off of one just now). Boy, if that is two pieces, about the only thing I could think would be to try to grip the screw on the other side. There should be what looks almost like a miniture version of the knob on the other side. That IS the screw I believe, so if you can crank that around it should move. I always thought the knob and screw were one piece with a spring loaded band holding it in place. Seems silly to make it a two piece screw. Sorry I can't help more. Good luck.
