My Ruger P345's 1911 action is smooth and sweet :D . Anyone have any complaints/comments about the 1911 action on your handguns?
 
I'm really glad you like you 345. And they do seem to be nice pistols from what I've seen. But they are a double action pistol. They in no way compare to the smooth action of a 1911 pistol with its SINGLE action trigger syste. I understand that your owners manual calls it a 1911 action. A true 1911 is carried cocked and locked, and wouldn't be caught dead with a double action trigger (sorry Para lda owners). Pick up a Smith or Springer 1911 and I think the differance will be easily apparent. Good luck.
 
How does your double action Ruger have a 1911 style action? Or is this just your wishful thinking.
Bill Ruger did a lot of impersonating over the years, but this time his company didn't even try and just outright lied.

Hey Glocker, since you mentioned it, the 1911 Colt 45 that I carried in the Army had a "half cock" that I was tought was one of the safety features of the handgun. Can you shed any light there, I never really understood that one. Do most 1911's have a half cock feature?
 
Half cock on a 1911 pistol is designed to "catch" that hammer if the sear breaks to keep the gun from going "full auto". Although some people do, a 1911 should NEVER be caried with the trigger on half cock. Most 1911 models have the half cock feature, although a few changes are out there, like the series 80 colts which have what they call a "safety shelf" instead of half cock. A true 1911 should be carried "cocked and locked". That's how it was designed to work, that's when it is at its best. Good luck.
 
To me its the unique trigger design of the 1911 that is its defining feature. Other lock up and takedown systems can be argued to be better, but no other autoloader can match the crisp break of its trigger. When that first shot has got to count, make mine cocked and locked 1911!

It's the crisp break of the 1911's trigger that I like and is the reason that it will be my next handgun purchase. The ruger, while a good gun from what I have heard, has a trigger that doesn't compare to the clean break of a 1911.
