1911 Barrle bushing holding the slide forward?

I have a colt combat commander that has just developed a hiccup, With the bushing in the gun, the slide will not go all of the way back, around 1/16th of an inch short, so the slide lock can't engage,

This is a new problem,
with the bushing in and no barrel it goes all the way back
with the barrel and no bushing it goes all the way back
the bushing slides smoothly the entire length of the barrel
I'm stumpped??

If you haven't done so, try leaving the recoil spring, guide and plug out and see what happens.

nope, the spring and guide didn't make any difference, the key seems to be the barrel and bushing interaction.

Maybe a burr or somehow the bushing got out of round? Does the bushing slide over the end of the barrel outside of the pistol? Try it and see.

Are you sure you have a Commander bushing in the slide? Commander bushings have a much shorter skirt than Government bushings. If a Government bushing was inadvertantly installed it's skirt will impact the front locking lug of the barrel and prevent full cycling. The same also happens if a Government model barrel is installed in a Commander, since the Government barrel has an extension of metal beyond the front locking lug.

yes the bushing slides smoothly over the entire length of the barrel

by golly I did tear it apart beside my cousins full sized Kimber the other day, that could be a possibility, i'll have to check that today.

Check to make sure the pin holding the barrel link hasn't become loose, and is sliding out a bit.

Well I got it fixed, I had the wrong bushing in, I'm not all that bright.

Easy mistake to make, that is why I keep all the parts segregated on the work bench if I am working on more than one firearm.

GM Busing in a Commander

Good that you didn't shoot it. The result would have likely been one ruined slide.

A ruined slide is a possibility. Damage to the front locking lug of the barrel is also a very distinct possibility as well as a trashed bushing.
