I couldn't find much of a selection when it comes to custom grips for my tok so I put some 1911 grips on with only minor modifications. check it out.

Hi Kbolt,

Please share more info on the required rework. I've got a pair of M213 (9mm Toks) and also found after market grips are pretty much non-existent.

Thanks,

Sorry for the late reply, I've been in Peru the last couple of weeks.
The mods to my tt-33 consist of a muzzle brake, ventilated trigger,1911 grips and reblued with birchwood casey super blue.
The grips are Pachmayr colt 1911 rosewood grips with decelerator rubber finger grooves from the sportsman's guide ($24.00) I'm not sure but I assume that any 1911 grips would work. All I had to do was remove about a quarter inch of length from the top of each grip, or the bottom which ever you prefer.
I let the grips protrude a little past the bottom of the frame so that they are flush with the bottom of the clip. I just sanded the top of the grips with a belt sander keeping them rounded off, the rosewood sanded easily and didn't even need to be restained. at first I mounted the grips with double stick tape which worked fine, later I drilled and tapped the mounting holes. The whole project took about an hour and a half. I had already removed the lanyard loop with a small punch for another set of grips that I made myself. It can be put back in place when I want to use the original grips.

Thanks Kbolt!! I would love to see some pictures of where/how you tapped the frame for the grips. I have never had a 1911, nor seen thier grips so it would help me a lot!

Thanks again,

Leroy

Geeze, I recieved some grips and they are significantly different in shape and size then the TT-33.

Back to the drawing board.

You might enjoy this post of how I converted the front sight of my TT-33 into a fiber optic front sight:

What is the trick to getting off the TT-33 grips? I've rocked the little lever in the mag well back and forth but neither position lets the grips come off, I don't want to risk breaking them as replacements don't seem so easy to come by.

You have to make sure it is all the way, and they do come off a little rough. One of mine is broken, hence the desire to put 1911 grips on, but man... unless 1911 grips come in many shapes and sizes they are no where near the shape as the grips on my Norinco L213...

I like the sight, it looks good!

Send me your original Tok grips and I'll give a shot at making a custom set. Never tried it before.

I would like to buy or make a set of those 1911 grips for my 2 TT-33 (both are 54-1 but they look exactly the same as far as grips go). They wouldn't even have to be as fancy as the ones Kbolt did. Plain wood would be fine but the above pics you did are awesome too, Kbolt.

Thanks!
