Police rescue kidnapped man from ATM robbers

Houston police rescued a man who was kidnapped in the parking lot of his southwest Houston apartment complex early today, arresting his captors as they tried forcing their victim to use his bank card at a nearby ATM.

The man was confronted by the armed pair about 2 a.m. and forced into his apartment to retrieve his bank card, police said.

Although the victim, acting under threat, told his roommate the two were friends, the roommate was suspicious and called 911 after they left.

Police searched the area and found the victim and his captors at a bank ATM at Bissonnet and Plainfield. The kidnappers were taken into custody without incident and now face charges.

Now there's a good roomate.

Jeeze. Since most ATM cards have a withdrawl limit of $400 per day, is it really worth it?

I think the 400(or 600 limit) is more for that one atm at one bank. I withdrew 600 dollars twice at two different atms and it did work. Most atm cards have a limit of 3 or 4 thousand dolalrs per day though. Still seems like a lot of work for kidnapping someone. Id rather just pull the atm out of the wall, seems like it would be a lesser crime :).

Pitched a case like that. Guys pulled an ATM right out of a wall in the middle of the night with a couple of "pry bars", 6 foot pointy rods and a truck.

However, the ATM they chose was across the parking lot from an all-night cop hang out. The cops were looking out the window not believing what they were seeing. The marked police cars were visible from the ATM, between the restaurant and the ATM.

TBO, as usual, a cool head saves the day. Remember, one of the 7 principles--Calmness.
