Well, I may have added to new shooters to the firearms world, one guy I work with and a lady driver that comes through my terminal all the time.

She already has her CCW but is very new to the firearms world and wants to start competion shooting here in WA, I was talking to them and said I did a little comp. shooting back home in TX, and now they want me take them out to the range and shoot with them and maybe give some advice and even show them a few things. Any how she carries a highpoint 9mm (i think its 9mm) for ccw she bought for very cheap I have had one in .45 and I didnt really like it (im not knocking highpoint no offense), so I sugested maybe getting a different weapon for ccw, if she can afford it. Was this wrong?

So I have been shooting handguns for about 4 years now (im only 24), I own several and practice alot back for competions with my brother and friends who are heavly into IPSC, but I have only competed in 2 matches. I still practice alot here but not realy IPSC since I havent found a range yet that will alow any type of shooting of that sort.

So now does anybody have some advice for me, I will definately teach them the 4 rules and safety first, then a few fundamentals, but other than that what else can I do.

They both already know how to load unload a hand gun, I have taught a few people before including my wife who now shoots better than me  , but really dont want to screw this up.

(Impatient are we?)

Safety comes first, then get them involved in having fun. Shoot water jugs...clay pigeons....balloons.... Whatever shooting they express interest in, there is likely some form of social activity or competition.

The Hipoint is fine, eventually, 80% of all shooters that turn to competition in my neck of the woods go 1911 or Glock. Ladies really seem to like the Glocks and CDNN has remanufactured ones in the $350 range.

I usually spend more time talking about safety & firearms handling before we get to the range. It's easier to talk & discuss w/o the hearing protection on. Also, I get newbies involved w/ the clean up so they more involved w/ the guns & take away any kind of mystique that might exist. Guns are tools...tools that must be respected. Your students should be respectful w/o being intimidated.
Have fun!

Ya, field stripping a firearm infront of someone just might make them go, "oh. Thats all there is inside that?"

But a nice dry fire session before the range might make all the difference in the world.

Sorry for the impatience guys, and thanks for the advice, I plan on leaning on safety more than anything, the guy that I work with wants a gun but is kinda of an anti so maybe i can completely turn him.

i would think hippoint would be almost impossible for a woman to like the feel. the grips, if you can call them that, are smooth and really slick when you start to perspire, plus the grip itself i so thick, i can't see a lot fo women getting their hands around the darn thing. Find her a nice cz.
