I'm staying at a hotel and there is some sort of LEO Week thing going on. I just walked through well over 200 LEOs, some were open carrying in civilian clothes. I had my SA Loaded .45ACP in a Bianchi #59 OWB along with two spare mags in a Bianchi #29 double mag pouch. Nobody gave me a second look. Not sure if it was because they thought I was a LEO, doubtful, or it just doesn't show. :scrutiny:

If you didn't get any second glances, they probably never saw. But out of 200 LEO's I'd think at least once person would notice. But, I don't think they'd really think much of it. I mean, what are you going to do? Shoot someone? There's 200 of them, and one of you. :p Either that or they'd just think you were another LEO.

LEO = law enforcement officer?

LEO = Law Enforcement Officer Right . .
Yeah, maybe they thought I was another LEO

I didn't mean to take a jab at your pride; just pointing out that with so many people carrying there, one more probably wouldn't peak their interest. I doubt anyone has "made" you, though. From what I've seen, it's much harder to figure out someone is carrying.

Come on, we've all seen that clip from Oprah....

And wow, I was right about the "LEO" thing. :p

If it was a law enforcement convention and many of them were carrying in civilian clothing, why wouldn't they assume you weren't also an officer?

Are you dressed like a gangster?

My buddy (a former Marine) carries occasionally OWB, when people take stock of his clean cut appearance and demeanor, see his holster they automatically assume he is a cop.

/Which is kind of funny considering for all sense and purposes the guy hates cops.

No offense taken at all. I just thought the whole situation was a little strange. With so many cops around it made me feel a little silly to even have my gun. Nah . . . I still feel safer no matter who is around.:D

I think there may be a big distinction between "not one spotted my OWB 1911" and nobody who spotted it brought it to your attention. If they thought you were a cop, being at a hotel with a convention of cops, then they likely thought you were a cop if they spotted the gun.

You very well may have been spotted, but nothing was said.

+1

They prolly thought you were another LEO and if they noticed, prolly thought, Hey, that guy gets to carry a 1911.

"Birds of a feather"... just one of the other guys among the 200... and since they were carrying and didn't recognize you, then hey, they are well prepared to take care of anything...

about 20 years ago (when i was in my 20's) was working o.t. on a saturday and at 4:30 am went to the donut shop to get "breakfast" for the crew. i was wearing tenny shoes, t-shirt, black leather motorcycle jacket and had shoulder lenght hair. walked into the d-nut shop and stood at the counter next to two uniform hpd (houston police) officers. they glanced at me but didn't really stare, till i ordered 4 dozen donuts, then they both looked at me and asked "are you a cop too?"

they thought you were one of them nothing more.

Who's to say you were not spotted and quickly sized up and the guy felt you were no threat, or you were spotted and you broke no laws so you were not confronted.

If your weapon and spare mags were properly concealed and you weren't doing anything to bring attention to yourself then my guess is they probably didn't even know it was there.
Right or wrong if you are clean cut, dressed decently, and acting like every other Joe Citizen you're going to be flying below the radar and it's unlikely anybody'll pay you any mind, no matter what you are carrying as long as it is concealed appropriately.
"Concealed" is the operative word. If you see me you might think I'm a cop because my appearance or mannerisms but it isn't going to be because you could tell I was packing heat.:D (sorry, couldn't help myself)

I believe the "OWB" stands for "Outside the WaistBand", or open carry.

I do it all the time here in AZ, and I'm 24, frequently unshaven (razor blades are expensive, I shave every third day to save on blades), and stand to lose about 20 pounds. I look nothing like a cop, but nobody give me so much as a second look. I love AZ.

Evidently your buddy is a outlaw. Either you support the police and our a good guy or your a outlaw and always talk **** about the cops. If your clean and dont cause any problems they wont mess with you.

I'm staying at a hotel and there is some sort of circus clown week thing going on. I just walked through well over 200 Circus Clowns, some were wearing colored wigs and regular clothes. I had my Super Mega Rainbow Wig along with my #87 Red Rubber nose. Nobody gave me a second look. Not sure if it was because they thought I was a circus clown , doubtful, or it just doesn't show.

I'm staying at a hotel and there is some sort of lobster fisherman week thing going on. I just walked through well over 200 lobster fishermans, some were carrying lobster traps in civilian clothes. I had my tricked out customer lobster trap along with one of those silly yellow rubber hats. Nobody gave me a second look. Not sure if it was because they thought I was a lobster fisherman, doubtful, or it just doesn't show.

I'm staying at a hotel and there is some sort of transvestite week thing going on. I just walked through well over 200 transvestites, some with adam's apples the size of a watermelon wearing women's clothes and no scarf. I had my golfball sized adam's apple showing along with this fabulous gold lame' club dress. Nobody gave me a second look. Not sure if it was because they thought I was a transvestite, doubtful, or it just doesn't show.

Not unusual

Are you dressed like a gangster?
It probably wouldn't have mattered. A gathering of that many coppers for training would no doubt contain officers from multiple jurisdictions. Required training of one sort or another usually has a share of undercover/dope cops too. I've seen a lot of them that look worse than gangsters

Interesting since you live in California. Was you gun concealed? Do you have a CCW? Just curious.

As a side note, if I had done that with my CCW in NC, law would require me to tell every LEO I come in contact with that I'm licensed and carrying.
Funny huh??

Jorg, Jorg, Jorg

Now that is funny. It wasn't up when I posted before or I would have commented. Dang mister, If I ever run into you at an AA convention I'll buy you a drink...............

Jorg..... not to burst your bubble - but if you want to fit in at a clown convention - you're going to need either a set of Dube or Todd Smith juggling clubs. A wig and a clown can get you to the front door of a clown convention, but all the way through it and you're going to need to have a set of clubs, otherwise everybody will know. The moment you don't get yourself in a passing pattern is when you'll be out'ted.

May I recommend what I own? Get some Todd Smith Harvard Phantoms.

ps: it's funny because it's true.

1. they probably didnt notice you
2. if they did the thought you belonged there
3. If the knew you were not an LEO they didnt care because you were not doing anything wrong.

However I am sure if you sling an AK over your back and duct tape some mags to your chest they WOULD notice. A major part of CONCEALED carry is that its NOT noticeable to everybody.

don't take kd7nwb's advice! You will become a very spiritual and holy man if you do!

Mechdriver....Wondered the same. California for the most part
the average owner doesn't get one. If you had one, why worry
about being challenged. Driving in my state just above Kalif.,
they know you have a card before your wheels stop turning!

Interesting since you live in California.

He said he was staying in a hotel. Maybe he wasn't in California?

Man, we knew you weren't a cop, but we also knew you were within the law. Pity we couldn't hang out, man. I should have asked if any other THR members were gonna be there.
