2020 Colt Python or S&W model 27?

Are you sure? There are tons of bad reviews like this to be found: https://www.northwestfirearms.com/threads/2020-colt-python-failure.330612/

I handled one when they first came out and it had a nice SA pull, apparently due to the light strike issues Colt changed the action so that the later one I handled had a bad SA trigger pull. I'm a Colt guy but among your two choices I'd go with an older S&W.
I can't speak for the Python, but the King Cobra I just purchased has a fantastic DA/SA trigger. In my research before I purchased it, I seen that there were some issues and complaints earily on. One of which was that the ejector rod would stick. When I compared the design of the one I purchased with the design of the ones depicted in the YouTube videos from about a year ago, mine is different. They must have already addressed the issue. Matter of fact I remember seeing someone post that Colt told them that they already had a new design in one of the older post I read.

I'm bring that up just to say there's a good chance that any earily reviews of issues could have been addressed already, so the complaints are no longer valid (if they were even valid in the first place).

Okay it's down to the wire now and I may make a move on a final revolver tomorrow.
As you know I've been lusting for a cold python for about 2 years but also realize the value and beauty of the model 27 and 357 Magnum"Pre 27"
The only other gun I'm considering is a stainless satin 627.

I'm looking for a 3.5 to 5-in Barrel more for open carry and occasional shooting. Something nice as a treat for my half-century birthday which is part of why the 2020 Colt Python would make sense although I could also find a model 27 or 27- 1 or 27-2 that could be right around my actual birthday as opposed to my half-century mark.

Anyway what are some final thoughts in that battle between Colt and Smith & Wesson 27 ?
If you want something classic and shootable, get the S&W. 3-1/2 and 5" barrels were discontinued in 1979, and if you want a M27-1, then get in line because so does everybody else. It's the rarest, because it's a one-year gun (1960) and fewer made than any other dash number. ANIB versions go for around $4500. I can't think of a nicer .357 than a M27, and a dash 2 is both affordable and numerous, is still P&R. I've got the M28-2, , they're nice guns to shoot.

Hopefully so, am just basing this on the last one I handled and recent internet reviews. My understanding is the King Cobra and Python actions are the same.

Cylinder release on a Colt goes the wrong way. A 6-shot N-frame is silly when the 8-shot N-frame exists. Get the 627, or even better get a revolver in any cartridge that is not 357 magnum

So what is the deal with CZ taking over Colt I had not heard.
Gosh sees he's becoming quite the Monopoly they took over Dan Wesson and at least they started making the interchangeable Barrel 357 again.
But are they completely taking over a colt?
Why and when?
And what does CZ stand for and what city and country did they originate in?
CZ is buying Colt outright. They also discontinued the Dan Wesson revolvers.

One model(s) left out of the equation but I think
should be there is the Smith & Wesson Model
586, old or new. Ditto for the 686, old or new.

First Choice: vintage S&W Model 27 with a 5" barrel.

Second Choice: new Colt Python with a 6" barrel.

Third Choice: vintage S&W Model 686 with a 4" barrel.

There now that was easy enough!

Well then I'm definitely holding on to my Dan Wesson 15-2 and 7:15.
So if CZ is taking over Colt is that a good reason to get a Colt Now?

I've added back to my list of considerations the colt King Cobra 4-in Target version due to how much I like the cold king cobra 3-inch and value for the money. They can be purchased new for $950 as opposed to double that for the python or about 1300-1500 for a very nice old SW "pre 27" or 27-2.

Any thoughts on that?

It's pure speculation at this point but the expectation is that Colt guns will become more available on the market but it may be some time before that happens. The understanding is that they will move Colt manufacturing to Arkansas.

Nothing will ever replace a Prancing Pony Colt’s, and the new Pythons are BETTER in every way over the originals.

They seemed to be listening and fixed issues. If you are correct about the King Cobra and Python sharing the same action, then the trigger pull is great too based on my example of one. They could have tweeked something else since you tried one. Also, I like that Colt publicly addressed the problem, and even released a video to be fully transparent. IMHO, it seems like they care about CS and their customers much more than S&W.

This is exactly why I don't lile rushing to buy newly released guns and being a beta tester. These were $2000+ when they were first released, and people were lining up to pay it. Now they dropped in price by a few hundred.

After following this thread and reading up on both revolvers meantioned in the OP, now I want one of each.

 that's what seems to happen when reading this thread Styx
I tend to end up buying less washing machines and more better and better revolvers:rofl:
Washing machines and guns I sell always come along with great fanfare in front of the wife
new acquisitions of revolvers mostly a private affair shared mostly with my young son who knows he'll inherit them:neener:

Well I procrastinated quite a while but at least let us keep my finger off the button of putting in more bids on GunBroker.

When is this switch over to Arkansas and CZ production of Colt expected to happen?

Thanks guys
Yeah I know about Dan Wesson and I'm still a fan but not as in love as I used to be but you'll probably be mad when you hear this:
Last week I bought a three Barrel pistol pack with all the tools and gauges and a two four and six inch barrel with the original styrofoam box and box cover in outstanding condition with blue in and great condition for $800 locally.
Thats a little low, take it back...hey young un, get the Colt, plenty of 27s out there... Happy 50th...its down hill from there...:neener:

Colt cylinders rotate backwards...but Pythons are still ok.

Oh and after 50 it is less "down hill" and more of "over a cliff."

So I guess that means I shouldn't waste time shooting anything but the best!
Or what makes me the happiest.

The nickel so-called premodel 27 sold for well over 2,800.
I stopped biding at $1600.

I've decided that old Smith & Wesson 357 magnums should be deep blue anyway and those seem to sell for about a thousand less.
But I'm looking for a good deal in a python right now and if I find one the game is over.

If I find a deal, I'll send you a PM. I'm looking for one too. The MSRP on them is $1499.00, so any FFL vender selling them at auction or in store for $1800 is making a $500 +/- profit.

Thanks Styx and everyone else and yes that seems like more than a fair profit for the seller.
If I could get one today for $1,800 I'm sure I would do it.

So just wanted to give you an update and felt I owed you some eye candy
News flash
I just bought a new python 4.25 in after scouring the internet and finding one had just gotten listed on for $100 less than anything on GunBroker.
I look forward to picking it up and putting it right between the 5-in Smith and Wesson 627
And the 3-in king cobra

How's the new python treating you? What barrel length did you get?

Pythons seemed unobtainable online but in going to several brick and mortar shops I have seen 4 and 6 inch for sale at msrp.

One affect of the crazy times, online sales or items on Amazon etc are often not the best deal. Sometimes you win by going in person, in my recent experience. Take care, and hope you enjoy the colt. The two I saw in person gleamed in bright stainless and made me want to come up with 1500 bucks.

(haven't yet... Must..... Resist....)
