look in the manual. it list varget as the best powder I believe. try to match the velocity. it has worked with me on my 243 and 300wsm. my 222 has never shot factory rounds so I can't tell and my 22-250 i haven't started reloading yet.

It is interesting that Hornady lists their ammo (either reg or moly)

40 gr. V-MAX 4150 fps

While their load data lists 8 different powders that will produce the same velocity with that bullet.

I would try about 38 grains of Varget below a 40 grain Nosler ballistic tip bullet. Thats the max load listed on Nosler's site for the 40 grain bullet and lists velocity at 4100 FPS.

I would start there if you cant get your hands on any Hornady moly coated bullets.

Good luck!

Ever pull apart one of their rounds and weigh the powder, and see if it looks similar to any powder that you have that is recommended for the 22-250? If you don't have a matching type/color of powder, I suggest you post a picture on here and someone is bound to know what it is.

codybrown, that is an absolutely rookie statement to make, but you're not the first to do so.
Nothing more dangerous than making an assumption of a powder based on a visual. Many factories use powders that are not available to the general public.
A sensible reloader needs to work with known components and listed loads, for everyone's safety.

I was under the impression that the factory loads were just loads that had been worked up from over the counter powders, and shot relatively well in a wide array of guns. If the powder in the case was similar to say varget, he could start with a reduced load and work his way up. I have been proven wrong, and am sorry I made the suggestion.
