.22 Competition Gun

I want a .22 for competition and target practice but I don't know/can't tell whether the model 41 is worth an extra $1100 over the Mk lll. I have only been able to handle a Mark lll and it was comfortable and liked the stock sights.

If it's $1100 MORE than a Mk III, you're looking in the wrong places.

That aside, a Mk III with an aftermarket trigger kit or good trigger job would take you to Master level in Bullseye. I think it's a matter of comfort ... my 41s simply feel better than the Ruger design.

I have shot and competed with High Standards, Rugers and Smiths. I own two model 41s. So if you can afford it get the Smith.

Canuk-IL is right. If you are paying $1100 over a Ruger, look elsewhere. Or look into a Pardini SP. You will never regret buying the best.

MSRP on M41 ~$1300
MSRP Mark lll competition~$600

so a difference of $700

I shoot master class scores with my early 80's vintage Mark II when I am in peak Bullseye shooting form. Many rounds through and its still going strong.

FWIW, I talked to an American Pistolsmith Guild member when I had him cut my SA slide for a set of BoMars. I was inquiring about having a Douglas barrel installed in the Mark II. He told me, "buy a box of 50 rounds of every kind 22 ammo you can find and shoot the pistol off the bench. Its been my experience the Ruger barrel is as good as any out there."
Coming from Al Marvel, I did that and never looked back.

I did do trigger work to it and mounted a red dot, some grips. If I miss, its my fault.

Find a used 3rd Model Woodsman, if in good condition will shoot with the model 41!

How about the Browning Buck Mark Bullseye Target, any opinions on it compared to the Mark lll or the M 41.
