I've been wanting to get a .22 handgun for awhile now, and am still trying to decide exactly what to get. In an effort to make the decision a little easier, I was wondering if anyone could help set up a framework of .22s in my price range, both new and used (please specify). I'm open to both revolvers and semi-autos.

About $225 will get you a new Beretta NEOS...a good solid, accurate gun, but not my favorite. You however may like it's futuristic looks.

For $250 to $300 you should be able to find a most excellent Browning Buckmark, IMHO, a superior .22lr. pistol. My 5.5 Field model, used ran $275.

A used Ruger... these are ubiquitous, in every gun shop in America.

Ruger is the Gold Standard

Oh, there are a couple of other pretty good ones out there, like the Buckmark, but for durability, bang for buck, and all that, it's very hard to beat the Ruger Auto. I have a MK1 Target and a MKII 22/45, have shot many bricks of ammo through both. No malfunctions to speak of - occasional dud round or an FTF when disgustingly dirty :barf: but that happens with any .22 auto. I've had other .22 autos and wouldn't trade my Rugers away.

might check out the 22/45, it's a mark III. Shop here had them nib $250. and sold them before I could buy me one.

Walther P-22 full slide .22. Those were $325 nib.

Smith and Wesson 22-A. Mine will shoot with my MK II all day long and it isn't as picky about ammo.

anybody else having a hard time trying to find a mk2? 3's are all over, but I can't find a used mk2 for the life of me. seems folks are hanging on to them.

My Mark II 22/45 is the most reliable semiauto I have ever shot. It's fun, accurate, and solid.

It's one of the last guns I'd sell, if it came to that.:)

You dont see them like you used too thats for sure...

For the OP.... A buckmark is right in your price range. Most all of the Autos will have a better trigger than the revolvers.

My two cents: a used Ruger MK11 or new MK111, will last several lifetimes.

I don't recommend 22 revolvers because they are not as accurate as 22 autos, even the best like the S&W model 18s and 17s.

In that price range, you're looking:

Beretta Neos
Browning Buckmark
Ruger Mark III series
Smith & Wesson 22A

They're all pretty decent, but the S&W can be really hit or miss. The Beretta is worth a look but is an acquired taste (folks seem to love or hate it). The Ruger and Browning are both excellent, with the Ruger being "the standard" but the Browning yielding nothing to it but longevity of the design.

Definitely a Browning Buckmark. I've had my Camper model for about 10 years now and it's extraordinarily accurate. I was out shooting it today and it amazes me how accurate it is even with cheap bulk 550rd Federals from Walmart. Excellent trigger and excellent accuracy for not much money.

Maybe i'm biased, but I think it looks better than the Ruger MkII's.

You don't see many Ruger MkIIs for sale used because frankly they are one of the very last pistols any gun owner will ever sell!

Why? Well, you ain't gonna get a LOT of money for a used MkII, in relative terms, but more importantly, the dang things are economical and very accurate.

I don't plan on ever selling mine . . . one of my three grown sons will inherit it one day! It is a real keeper . . . and currently sports a Bushnell Holosight and Volquartsen left handed target grips. What a wonderful combination for this lefty!

Used revolver for like $150: H&R DA 676 .22/.22mag

The SA trigger is just as good as a Single Six's and the DA trigger is medium. But, a medium DA trigger is infinitely better than no DA trigger at all. The one below cost $150 and it's a stompin' tack driver.

My friend has one of the Beretta NEOS and he really likes it, but I don't care for it. My dad recently gave me a Ruger MKII w/ 10" barrel and it is a very nice gun. I have seen the Rugers go used in the $200 to $300 range. I know that when I find a 22/45 I will be all over it.

just like aka zero, my choice goes to the walther p-22. it's one of the only higher caliber looking 22, i mean every brand come out with a kind of crazy futuristic look for the 22 caliber so if you're looking for a 22 that looks like a real semi go with the walther (i know bunch of you dislike the action of walther, i myself am not a big fan)

and agree with creade if you prefer a revolver the ruger single six is perfect

"Ditto the others- I gave ~$280 for my Ruger MarkII Stainless Slabside, used off Gunbroker."

---I want to find that deal. I can't find one for less than 350+shipping+ffl.

Browning Buckmark. I got my 5.5" slab sided barrel version for only 180 NIB, though usually they run between 220 and 300. The 22/45 is also a good pistol... I just prefer the trigger and grip on the Buckmark. If i could get a stainless 22/45 i might go with that over the buckmark, but when comparing blued, i'd go buckmark.
