22 plinker suggestions

It usual takes about 4" of barrel to get them super sonic as a rule of thumb. 3.5" may or may not.
Mmm that doesn't sound right for mini mags, I don't think I've ever had anything crack in my 4" buckmark and I shoot Blazers in my 6" suppressed 1911 they're rated at the same 1235 fps as 40gr mini mags and they don't crack. I'll take them shooting tomorrow with a bunch of different ammo and see.

I reserve the right to be wrong

Get a Tx22 Competiton. I love mine, had it since they came out. Never any major issues, in fact the last 1k rounds I've yet to really clean it and don't think I've even had as much as a typical rimfire feed error. Pretty good trigger, 16rd mags that aren't expensive. I have most of the common .22 plinkers and it's the one I shoot the most.

How about S&W Victory? Or Beretta Neos?

A Victory is a decent suppressor host. It is reliable with or without a can. However, I get a sense that it's excluded by OP with "not particularly interested in something like a Ruger MK series". He definitely wants a tactical-looking gun. Also, Victory only comes with 10 round magazines.

I didn't add any suggestions because I secretly think that he should get a Taurus, and he doesn't want to.

I left the target type pistols out, because I'll grab one of them separately and already have my preferences. The 10rd magazine thing isn't really a deal breaker one way or the other for me. The higher cap mags are nice, but won't particularly sway my decision.

And I'm starting to come around on the Taurus guns, they've got too many positive reviews to ignore. I think it's down to the TX22/TX22 Competition and the Sig P322 currently.

I like my P322 slightly better than my TX (I had both versions).
And my unscientific tests with 36 and 40gr mini mags, Velocitors and Stangers concluded with the only ones that cracked from my 4" buckmark were the Stangers even the 3 Velocitors I shot didn't. Out of the 6" 1911 4 out of 9 40gr and 6 out of the 10 36gr mini mags cracked and all 3 Velocitors. Didn't bother to shoot Stangers from the 6".

The most surprising thing was the 40gr mini mag that failed to fire even after 3 hits, I don't think I've ever had that with a mini mag.

I rented an SR22 once and liked it fine. Can’t go wrong with that if you want something small and light.

Bersa T22 looks just like a PPK if you want the old Bond look.

I used to shoot with a guy who had a Buckmark, and it was excellent. At least as good as my MkIIs.

I recently acquired a High Standard “High Sierra” 9-shot revolver. It looks like an SA revolver, and you’d be excused for thinking that it is, because the DA pull is stiffer than I’m used to (compared to a Smith and Wesson K22). The SA is very good, though, and that thing is quite the shooter! A niche item, but really a great pinker if you can find one.

I have a Ruger Mk II that has never been very reliable. With the Oregon high capacity magazine law and new purchase requirements coming into effect I went for a KelTec CP33 and a couple +17 magazine extensions bringing the round count up to 50 per magazine. It is ugly plastic and certainly won't win any beauty awards but it is one heck of a nice shooter! The long tail section of the gun really balances it nicely as well as making it nice with open sights with the incredible site radius.

There’s a sentence you don’t read every day. Mks are known to be not quite as accurate as High Standards or Model 41s, but they typically run like champs.

What have you tried? I’d probably soak the whole gun in Ballistol for a few days, let it drip dry, strip it and grease the bolt and recoil spring lightly, and if that failed replace the recoil spring assembly.

I’m a big fan a of the Ballistol bath. My Model 19-3 revolver locked up tight recently. Hammer wouldn’t move at all. I soaked it 24 hours, loosened the side plate screws, gave it a little shake and it started working again. Put the grips back on and it’s dry-firing fine. I hope to get to the range in a few days to test it out.

I took it to a couple of gun smiths several years ago. Neither were able to to get it to feed reliably with any ammo they tried and any adjustments they made. I have more in gunsmithing services than I have into the pistol. It has been a safe queen for the past couple of decades.

Did you try a new mag?

I have not but I remember one of the gunsmiths telling me that he tried multiple magazines. I honestly don't remember if I have a second magazine for it... it has been a very long time since I have even looked at it.

Get an FN 502 comes supressor ready and optics cut with a 10 and a 15 round mags. Super trigger mine is 3lb accuracy is out of sight and they are no longer selling at a premium. Will run most anything except Federal match at 100%.
