Any powder recommendation for reloading .223 with Armscor 62gr FMJBT bullets for AR15? Would Reloader 15 be a good choice?

H335 is my go to powder for my AR15:) Out shoots Varget, IMR4198, IMR4895, in my rifle(YMMV)

varget is very hard to beat on heavier OTM bullets like 69, 77, 80g

it's also in short supply. don't waste it on 62g fmjbt :)

The only one listed here that I could find locally (and reasonably priced) is Reloader 15. I guess Ill give that a try.

Cheap is always good

All of the powder listed here is available! Some may be 2 or 3 dollars more a pound, but over a couple hundred reloads how much does that cost! I am not a veteran like some, but have had good luck with Varget, BLC-2, 748, RL 10X and H335. The Crony says what u want to hear, but the target is what its all about so i personnaly stick to the first three on my list. 100 yds half inch will do for my plinking! Good luck!!!!!

All the powders above will do the job loading the .223 but IMO H335 is probably the best choice considering that was the original powder used to load the 5.56mm NATO round. If you have trouble finding H335 and you can find some H322, that will do a very good job too. Actually, H322 is a better choice in extremely cold weather because it's one of Hodgdon's "Extreme Rifle Powders" which are supposed to be very temperature stable.

Ok, just because nobody has mentioned them, I'll recommend Ramshot's X-terminator and TAC for .223 with bullets up to 62gr. I've been loading 55gr bullets with X-terminator and it performs very well. And I've read some very good things about TAC.

I use Varget and H335 but have had good luck with RE10 and Benchrest as well as IMR-4895 and BLC(2). I really want to give Ramshot's TAC a whirl.

A lot of it depends on the rifle, my 580 series Mini-14 really shoot's good with H-4895, 25.3 grains behind a 55 gr Hornady SP spire point. My .308 loads also rock with H-4895, I really like this powder, just very tough to find right now.

Greetings,

I am using 25.1 gr Ramshot TAC with Hornady SP 55 grains and I have excellent results.

I did not try any other powder yet, but I plan in the future to give a couple tries. just for fun.

Thank you

Accurate Data Powder 2200

55gr WW FMJ - 23.5gr/2200 = 3200fps -- .9" @ 100yds with 1 in 9" twist FN 20" HBAR upper. (max load - reduce by 10% to start)

69gr Sierra HPBT - 21.5gr/2200 = 2975fps -- .5" @ 100 yds with 1 in 8" twist FN with 24" SS target barrel. (max load - reduce by 10% to start)

I bought 48 pounds of it from MidSouth Shooter's Supply in 2004 at their closeout price of $48/8lbs. ($6/lb) plus actual shipping and two hazmat fees. About two months later the price went down to $40/8lbs ($5/lb). Shortly after that I called MidSouth and they said it was all gone and they wouldn't be getting any more. He who hesitates... :(

It is a fast burning (slower than Accurate 1680 and faster than Accurate 2230) fattened ball powder best suited to .233Rem and 7.62x39mm cartridges. Even if you had to pay double the price it would still be worth it.

I've always used Varget for heavy bullets and H335 for light ones, but chances are that if you didn't buy those long ago, you are out of luck. My stashes are almost gone, and I will have to start over with something that is available when they run out. RE15 and TAC seem to be out there, and are fairly popular choices.

I've reloaded 55gr. FMJ with up to 24.5 gr of TAC. I was very pleased. These were my first reloads. They worked flawlessly and the accuracy was better than any factory ammo I had shot yet. The barrell twist rates were 1/9 and 1/12. I will be working up some heavier loads for the 1/9 and some lighter (bullet weight) for the 1/12, it likes faster loads.

R15 should be fine with that bullet weight. I've used R15 and Varget, but they are harder to measure in powder drop compared to ball powder.

I use AA2230 more than anything .223. AA2230, W-748, and H322 get the most nod from benchrest shooters for small caliber like .223. I have load data from 36gr to 69gr in these powders for .223. AA2230 is cheap and pours like sand.
