got a 580 series mini-14 will use55 gr hornadys bullets , i have a lot of hodgen H-322 powder ,to keep from buying more powder , anybody use the h-322 ?how do you like it ? any load data you want to share that workes good in a 14
I use it in a Savage under a Hornady 50gr Z-Max lit by Fed 205M. This powder is very accurate. I tried the same with H335 and the H322 is better for me at least.
It works just fine in .223. I ended up between 24.4 and 24.7 for 55 Grainers, depending on the bullet and OAL. That is over the online Hodgdon data. Start low and work up. My H-322 is fairly old. Use these charge weights at your own risk.
I shoot H 322 with the Hornady 55 SP SX and it is the most accurate load of 3 different bullets that I load (the other 2 are the 52 gr Hornady AMAX and the 40 gr Noselr BT). I have found the SP SX to work better on varmints that the A, V or Z max in the 2 .223 rifles I have.
H322 was the benchrest powder of choice for 2 decades, in the heyday of the 222 Remington. I still have a pet load using H322 for my 222 M722 Remington. It's still a viable choice for 223 loads, and as others have mentioned, www.hodgdon.com has loads listed with many bullet weights. You should be able to find something that works for your Mini-14.
H-322 is known are a Benchrest powder and produces very accurate ammo. It works very well in the 6mm BR cartridge so I see no reason why it won't also work well in the .223.
While it's not a ball powder it is a very fine extruded powder that meters very well. It's also one of Hodgdon's Extreme powders so if you're using your .223 ammo in very hot or very cold weather it will be a better choice than H335. H322 is also a little faster than H335, it's right around the speed of Benchmark, AA-2015 and RL-10X.
Thanks. Midsouth is local to me and they are out of just about every ball powder that can be used in .223, so I'm looking for other options. Looks like H322 will be a good one.
