I was looking into a auto 22 pistol (I have a single six, but wanted something a bit faster). I was thinking about the ruger 22/45, but It would be cheaper to put this conversion on my 1911, and I mainly want it for practice for my 1911 anyway.

I've read a few reviews on it, and it seems to be great, but a few said it doenst work with a mil spec hammer. I own an old 1911 commercial thats serial number dates it to 1916, I was wondering if anyone knows if I would have an issue.

Thanks,
Halv

I can't say about your particular gun but the conversion on a Raptor is great and shoots as well as any target 22 I have shot. I have made one shot kills on Grouse out to 50 yds. I'm not sure what the effect of a mil-spec hammer would be but you might drop an email to Kimber and ask.
Mine shoots most ammo fine with few cycling issues.

I too am not sure about the mill spec hammer but I can tell you that they are a little picky in terms of ammo used, I have had extreamly good luck with the Blazer 22lr that comes in the black red and silver box, I've shot 2 thousand rounds through mine before it started having cycling issues I have also had good luck with the Federal Auto Match, it is a little more expensive but runs well and is a good second option when you can find the blazer. That said all 22lr ammo is extremely dirty and will get your frame extremely dirty. I would say it is worth the risk of trying it out.:)

I got one from MidwayUSA last summer when they put them on sale. Some report functioning problems with bargain .22 ammo. I used Federal American Eagle 40 gr lead and I never had any problems with mine.

Don't know anything about that hammer problem you mention.

Some conversions say they may have trouble with the mil-spec hammer spring. Some include a lighter one in case you have trouble.

My hammer is a bit too tall for the rear sight when it's all the way down.

I raised the rear sight a bit and the hammer clears.

RIA GI is the platform.

I just bought the hottest ammo that was reasonably priced ... fed everything but the mags were dry so a round got stuck once. Cleared that and lubed and ran like a sewing machine.

In my experience, if one wants to learn to double tap with it , the use of a conversion does translate wonderfully.
