Whats your favorite powder and bullet weight?

What do you shoot with that combo?

I just picked up a Rem 783, I know a very inexpensive gun. But for $200.00 brand new I figured I would give it a try.

I plan on shooting rabbits mostly but might have a chance to go after coyote and when my kids get a little older they might use it for deer.

Never owned but seems like a great caliber for either predators or deer. Surely it would blow the hell out of a rabbit as in too much gun.
Father owned one and did not like it but would not say why, so that was a useless conversation. Said he preferred the .264 mag.. whatever

100gr for deer; also 95gr Nosler B.T.
I use 41.5gr IMR4350 w/95gr. 41.0gr with 100gr Sierra Pro-hunter. 2,900-3,000fps
My Savage Axis will shoot these to ~1/2" 3-shots.
I prefer Winchester Brass, Fed210 primers.

For varmints; 65gr Hornady V-Max seated to 2.675"
Over 42.5gr of IMR4064 I get 5-shots under 0.65"
Using Hornady brass.... eeiry accurate and fast ~3,700fps..

My rifle shoots the 65's 2.5" high when the 100's are sighted 1.5" high....

My rifle has had the stock free floated, JB Weld bedded action, and trigger worked to ~2.5lbs.
Acutally a delightful "bargain" rifle. Very similar to the Remington 783.
All, with a Simmons 3x-9x ProSport 40mm scope (~$50)

I've wrapped the grip to make it a little more "familar" feeling as the grip is very small/thin with a wide curve to the grip.

100 gr. Speer BTSP or Hot Core, and 46.0 grs., 7828 is my ticket also, and will take care of what ever you feel like shooting / hunting.

BTW, I just got back from the range and shot a ragged hole all morning long with the above combination.

I run a similar load for 6mm Rem, same thing, it's a high velocity 3100+ fps tack driver combo. Only difference, is 2.0 grs. more than .243.

You can't over charge with 7828 with either of those two cartridges, great stuff!

Ya, I've had really good results with IMR-4350 and H4831 as well with 100 grainer's. But that 7828 has definitely been the ticket.

My wife's liked 4350 and 100gr. She didn't like the gun though, so it went bye bye and in its place came goodies for my contender. HELLLLLOOOOO 7-30 WATERS

I use the same load Gamestalker does. 46gr of 7828 under a 100gr. bullet; only I use Sierra Pro-Hunter bullets. My favorite is 46gr. of Supreme 780 under a 100 gr. bullet. Actually I can't tell much difference between the two powders except that the 780 is easier and faster to load. I use the same powders in my 270W just different weights.

H4350 and Varget with 90gr Accubonds are a wonderful matchup. Loaded slightly off the lands.

I'll try to get my exact few loads later today.

Agree the .243 is overkill for rabbits. The .22LR is perfect for them.

A friend just took a nice 4X4 bull elk in the Routt National Forest near Craig, CO.

He was using .243s with 95gr. Ballistic Silvertips. Unknown powder charge but clocked at ~3200fps. Shots went right through. Massive damage. I saw it.

We are over stocked on jack rabbits. So not really worried about eating them as much as we are about keeping them from eating the wiring and interior parts of all the cars in our salvage yard.

I have run a few loads using 22, but not enough to say one way or the other how well it holds up day in and day out. It was pretty accurate though usingt the 100gr bullets.

I also loaded up some reduced 90gr loads years ago using the data found in the Speer #11 manual I think. THey were great for turkeys since they hit dead on at 50yds with the same zero I used for the 100's at 100yds.

Also like mentioned I now use both H-4350 and one not mentioned H-100V for the loads in a couple of 243s we use now. The grandsons Sako shoots the 100V under a 100gr Nosler Solid Base through one hole at 100yds and my old Win 70 uses the 4350 to do the same with them and the 95gr Partition.

Another load if the bit louder noise isn't an issue is the Sierra 60gr Blitz over a load of H-380. That one does the red mist things to critters under about 35#.

105(Speer SP's) and 90(Speer FMJ's. Wiley hide hunting load.) grain bullets with IMR4350.
Don't even think about Bugs with a .243. Mind you, Jack's are different, but that 783 better shoot really well to shoot 'em with a .243.

Taken with an 87 gr. Hornady V-Max. I've taken several coyotes with is this bullet. A rabbit I shot with it ended up in two pieces as did a pigeon.

Grubbylabs, I can't remember if I've done RL22 in the .243? Anyway, how does it run, I'm guessing it's a real slow burner in that cartridge?

It's a great powder for my 300 win. I have a few pounds with a few pounds around to pick up at local stores, I was thinking of giving it a try.
