Just out of curiosity, but if one was interested in a 3" revolver, what kind of options are readily available?

Chris

New not many
S&W 60 3 in with adjustable sight
S&W 65 3 in with fixed sights
Ruger gp101
used
S&W 60 -4
S&W 13 or 65
S&W 586 or 686 but few and far between

Ruger sp101 in 9mm and 357
Ruger security six and speed six

Taurus has made several 3" revolvers in .44 spl fixed and adj sights. I also have a Taurus 605 3" in .357.

S&W 64 3" .38

I like 3" revolvers.

Counting 3.25" and 3.5" revolvers, I have the following: 629, 627, 625, 624, 610, 27, 10, 13, 65, 36, 640, .32 Hand Ejector, and .38 Safety Hammerless. :)

THE premium 3" that everyone is chasing is the M-66. Only a couple of thousand were made. My revolver of choice is the M-65 3". I am lucky enough to own two of them now. I had a pristine M-13 in 3". It was so pretty that I traded it so I would not be the first one to ding it. I got the 2d 65 and some other goodies for it.

Probably the rarest of the Smiths in 3" is the 686 overrun on the U.S. Customs contract. It, and the 4", have round butts and frosted finishes.

I HIGHLY reccomend bothe Model 13 (blued) 3" and the Model 65 (Stainless) 3" .357's. I have one of each and one or the other is going to be my next full-time carry gun. The other one, hopefully, will be my wife's carry gun.

Following Chron Results -- Various Dates -- Distance - 3 to 4 paces -- aprox 9 to 12 feet muzzle to first screen of chrono. Temp 70 to 80 degrees. M340 and M360 are Smith & Wesson Scandium Titanium revolvers. Haven't tested 185/14.7 Lil'Gun, but 185/13.5 Lil'Gun exhibits no bullet pull problems in Scan Ti 340. Where Pwdr shows NA = factory load.

Re the Vel NA for 340 Ti -- got tired and did not shoot in Ti 340.

djl4570,

S&W 625-2 in .45ACP - I think these are still in the catalog
The 625-2 hasn't been in the catalog since the late '80s. The last 3" .45 ACP 625 that S&W offered as a standard catalog item was in '89, IIRC. (...and I want one. :uhoh: )

Tamara, I'm ashamed, you didn't even take the time to post a pic of some of those 3 inchers ;)

I don't know what it is, but 3 inchers seem to have a better balance for me than snubbies..and it just doesn't seem like many companies agree with me

Chris

I still want one of these 3" dudes but, the M25 had to come first.

Don't forget the S&W M29, M25, M24, M696, M657, or the Colt Python, Detective Special, and Cobra.

I have a model 13 that when the barrel went I had a 3" tube installed (could have had it set back but I figured it wa s a good excuse)

The model 65 LS has a 3" tube. The guy @ S&W told me they can engrave over the ladysmith logo so people won't razz you at the range.

Ruger makes a GP100 with a 3" barrel, fixed sights, and a reduced grip frame. Never shot one but I really want to.

Shop by me has a very holster worn 3" model 624 I wouldn't mind owning.

Ted

i got a real nice nice 720

oh and i'm no fool sorry, i put some wolff springs in it and lightly stoned and polished here and there. she has the fluted cylinder and red ramp front sight. and everyone i mean everyone loves her. from light cas loads to corbons she gobbles it all up. be safe. wayne
