Spent a long day at the range to determine best load for 150g. Below shows 200-yard accuracy results for 150g. 5-shot groups. The specs follows.

Remington 760 30-06 pump with 3-9x40 scope shot from the bench rest.
All loads with FC brass, trimmed to same case length. Neck sized. All bullets surplus 150g M2 except where noted. COL 3.29". Primers CCI #34. All rounds clocked at about 2700 FPS. H4895 & IMR4064 seem to be the best for this set up.

50.5g IMR4064. Except for the flyer, I was very happy with this.

46.6g H4895. Except for the one flyer, I was very happy with this.

48.0g IMR3031. Surprisingly bad since this is a decent load in my Garand.

49.0 IMR4895. There are 5 holes here. Not as tight as H4895. My scope was loose after these shots, so that might explain the spread.

50.0g Winchester 748. Similar powder as 3031 in terms of burn rate and similar bad results.

Greek mil-surp HXP71. Not bad for cheap CMP stuff.

165g with 55g IMR4350 after my scope loosed up. Bullets Hornady #3045 SPBT. The two flyers were from sighting in.

i have the same rifle and use imr 4350 at 52 grs with 165g hornady BTSP very good light recoil load it is an old lyman starting load for accuracy! i tried some berger bullets and it really shot well .about 3/4 inch at 100yds.

Bull

I just checked my notes and the 165g was with 55g IMR4350. After going through all these 150g rounds the 165's felt like I was shooting a 300 win mag.

With a 165gr Sierra GameKing or 168gr Sierra MatchKing I have gotten sub 1/2MOA accuracy with a charge of 58.0gr H4350. If you want to use IMR4350 drop the charge weight 1 full grain to 57.0gr under the same 165/168gr bullets. I like H4350 better than the IMR powder because it seems to be more accurate in all my 30-06 rifles.

Perfect timing, thank you for posting.

I am going to start loading for a 760 Remington 30-06 very soon and this data will really shorten the learning curve. I have never loaded a bottleneck cartridge before so this is expecially helpful.

It is also good to see others have "flyers" from time to time. I get tired of seeing the perfect dime sized group at 600 yds with claims that any gun/shooter combination that cannot shoot a group like this isn't worth a grain of salt.

The nasty 760 trigger pull and too many gallons of strong coffee will easily induce flyers.

I've found IMR to be more consistent that Hodgen powders. But the 4895 results above certainly change that for 150g m2 in this rifle. Will run my Nosler BT and partitions through it too see if the same results come up.
