Took 2 this season with my AR chambered in 300 BLK. Well I took a doe. My lady took a buck with it.

Load was a hand loaded Hornady 125 SST at just over 2200fps

Doe was a 80 yard broadside shot

Complete pass through as expected and about a 2" hole going out

Buck was out a bit farther at about 140. Slight quartering to us so she hit him on the shoulder.

Internal damage was WOW on the buck I will spare you all the image but lets say I have no doubt in the 300's ability to drop dear out to 200-250 yards.

Congratulations on you and the wife's deer. Good to hear positive remarks with the Blackout.

I have a couple of them, the latest is a Rem 700 bolt gun. I use suppressed sub sonics mainly on hogs out to 100 yards or so and have taken 10 so far this deer season. With the subs knowing the distance is very important as the trajectory is like a rainbow with 240gr SMK's. Shooting them at 200 yards is a hoot.
Here's a short video....

Ha! I like the long pause between the the report and the ping back :). I am happy with the performance of the loads I have been running. They seem to work great for the intended purpose. I may end up building a subsonic upper in the future here. To many guns and not enough time or money UG!

Dolph,
With the Buck, what did the round do? Did you get an exit wound? Was there much of a blood trail? How far did it go after the shot?

It did a pretty good amount of damage. She hit him on the left shoulder at a slight quartering to her angle a bit high. It passed through and kept going. I was hoping to recover a bullet this year but no dice. The round broke 3 ribs in and 3 out. She hit him again mid spine so he dropped within 20 feet of the first shot. I watched it all through the scope of my 270. I actually shot after her first shot and um ahhh I missed (there I said it ok) at the second shot he folded. Neither bullet stayed around to find it. There was a bunch of blood and I even found pieces of rib where the first shot hit him. Obviously the 2nd shot wasn't needed.

I got my buck with a 16" 300blk and 125 SST (avg velocity of 2167 fps) this year, too hard to tell what the bullet does at long range since I shot it at less than 10 yards. But, the shot barely nicked the heart, shattered the shoulder, and blew up the lungs. It ran right next to the tree I was in so the shot was darn near on top of it. I didn't notice an exit hole and could not find the bullet when field dressing. After I shot, the deer ran less than 30 yards and laid down for good. You can see the entry on the front shoulder in the pic.

I don't deer hunt, but do have an interest in the .300 Blackout's effectiveness for slaying Bambi out to 150 yds. Friend of mine who does hunt deer is currently doing some field testing with my .300 AR and will report back to me.

He's shooting some 168gr. h.p. bullets that I loaded to about 1900 fps.
