I bought a almost new Savage 300 WSM from a guy on the net that only shot one box of ammo in it the reason he sold it to me was because of the heavy recoil. It is the model 110 with sporter barrel. after I shot it maybe 30 times I put a muzzel break on it because it did have a hell of a recoil for me too. It kicks just as much as my 300 mag did before it got a break on it too.
