Commited to buy a enfield jungle carbine no mag sight unseen $100 cash
You know how it is a deal cant pass it up how bad can it be?
Just looking for a lil fun not going to hunt with it just gonna shoot stuff in the out back.
I know NOTHING about the enfield, money pit? boat anchor? Or a good deal?
let me know what you think and tomorrow i will update with pix.
Thanx

special in that it is more rare than usual enfield. good sights, lots of recoil.

mags should be easy to find

ammo is expensive

enjoy

Hundred bucks it's hard to go wrong. If it's a legit JC, spend $60 on a mag, sell for $350, buy something you know about. Or keep and enjoy for $160.

Ammo's expensive, they kick, lotta chopped Enfields people call Jungle Carbines. Unless it says Rifle No.5 Mk I, and is built from an Enfield No.4 rather than SMLE action, it's a chopjob.

Its a good deal no matter how you slice it, unless it has a totally shot out barrel or something. Any serviceable SMLE is worth more than what you're paying even with the cost of a magazine. If it is a real No. 5 you can sell it and make a few hundred or so.

I have an Enfield that absolutley loves Prvi Partizan .303 ammo and I mean loves (1" to 1.5" groups from the bench), and I get for around $15 a box.

The jungle carbine kicks like a mule and it's really loud. Wear hearing protection, Other than that, it's a great firearm. That's a great price if all it needs is a mag.

It will be interesting to see what you end up with. There are a bunch of home made "Jungle Carbines" out there, some being made for 2A1 .308 Indian Enfields. We need pics when you get it. Hope the best of luck for you to get an actual #5mk1.

Smooooth action, quality manufactured, lots of history, ammo is not that expensive. I don't think you could go wrong at that price even if it is bubba-ed. Buy it, you may fall in love with the Enfield at first cycling of the bolt as I did.

fyi the jungle carbine kicks like a pissed off mule...i fired a guys at the range...once... and walked away with a bloody lip from when my right hand smashed into my face

The No5's make a nice light hunting rifle. A complete rifle is worth around $300+ for the JC's. Manny JC's are converted No4's, cut down to look like the No5. It's load and kicks like a 8mm Mauser. Post pic when you get it so we know what you have.

Stay away from aftermarket mags, none of them work very well. A original mag from a No4 or No5 is what you want. If you are restricted to a five round mag for hunting the only good ones are the old "Santa Fe" mags that are stamped "Santa Fe" and "Made in Japan", hard to find and spendy.

Springfield Sporter's had new origional mags about a year ago. Got one for my "rescued" BSA #5mk1 for $25.

You say "chop job" like its a bad thing. When you quote $350 for Jungle Carbine, Is it a arsenal converted to No5 JC, or an honest to god, as originally issued, carried in Malaysia, No.5? When supplies dried up in the sixties a lot of No 4s , got converted and sold as No5s. see if it says " CAI, Blue Sky, Golden State Arms, etc, on bottom of barrel towards the muzzle. If it does $300 about right. If not see if he will let you pop the stock off, if you find, a series of holes drilled thru the action, it might be true jc. in which case $300 is an awesome price.

Didn't Gibbs Rifle Co. make some well finished shortened 308's at one point?

Either way, ANY Enfield is worth $100... Unless its been Bubba-raped.
