How are these cartridges doing are they basically dead now commercially? That 338 in the stainless Marlin xlr looked like a very nice outfit. Are the rifles and/ or ammo even available any more? I am talking about 308 and 338 Marlin express introduced about 5-7 years ago.

I don't think Remlin is making the .338 right now but I don't think it's discontinued. They're just trying to learn how to make the more popular guns properly every time. The .308/.338 were always going to be small niche products. Ammo will be available. And as with any oddball, reloading isn't a bad idea either.

I still want a 338 Marlin Express with the walnut stock. Ammo is available at a small gun shop near me and I have seen it at a Cabelas Outfitter store down state.

I agree with hatt that it is a small niche but it is listed on Marlin's website. For a Northern Michigan guy the 338 or even 308 Marlin Exp. is all that I need in another lever-action.
