Can .308 Winchester dies be used for reloading the .307 Winchester. I'm visiting my step-daughter and her family so I'm away from my reference books. My step-daughter''s husband recently acquired a Winchester 94 in .307 and he has dies for a .308. He just retired after 20 years in the navy and I'm hoping he can get this done on the cheap until he finds new employment.

The .307Win is the .308Win case with a rim (same as the .30-30Win rim) I use .308/7.62NATO dies and a shell holder (Lee #3) for the .30-30. Works great. Loading data is hard to find for the .307. Keep in mind that the .307Win is not loaded as hot as the .308 as it was used in the M94 lever action. I have had no problems keeping powder charges in the .308 "starting load" range and using flat nose bullets made for the .30-30.

Ken Waters' book, "Pet Loads" has a couple of articles on the .307 at pages 1130 and 287.

No rifle powder at present so it will depend on what's available. I'll see him again before hunting season and can provide him with 4895, 4350, H335, and BLc2 as well as some Hornady flex tip 30-30 165 gr. bullets. I have 8 lb jugs of all those powders. With the crunch with reloading components he may have to use those components.

Thanks for everyone's advice.
