what length, twist rate, and brand of barrel are you shooting?
out of curiosity how many mils are you having to dial from a 100yrd zero to hit the 1k?

26" Bartlein MTU contour 1:10

I'm using 7.9 mils, which was a lot less than the ballistic app said to use. I need to measure scope height which has a big impact on the calculation. As also mentioned, we're shooting off a hill down to the target. Not sure how much that plays into it.

I'm new to all of this so I'm learning as I go

You are obviously learning at a very quick rate if you say you are new to this. Great shooting. That group size is something to be very proud of.
My pet load for my 1k 308 gun is 10.36 mil with 175 smk.

Up and downhill will bring you a higher impact, my app does allow for that but getting the angle perfect is something I only get "close enough" with........when I remember to add that factor in. ;)

The last time I had them over a chrono was 2520fps
They are slower than I'd like (20" barrel) but they are so consistent and accurate I don't mind the drop

I've been focusing on 185 Berger Juggernauts but what would look good at 100 wouldn't hold up at longer distances. I think I found it this weekend when I switched to 180 SMKs

100 yards on left, 1000 on the right

I loaded the 180g SMKs .015 off the lands with 43.5g Varget, Lapua brass and 210m primers. Average speed 2708 fps with an SD of 11

Shot this with my new rifle, which I'm really enjoying

Very little wind today, thank goodness. Haven't figured out how to deal with that yet
I get the same results from a Factory Savage with 178gr Amax and 44gr Varget. It is a known good load with many rifles with 1/10 twist barrels.

Sorry, I fat fingered that last night. It's a Manners T5. They say the mini chassis doesn't need to be bedded. Considering the results I'm getting I would agree.
Hmmmmm, Manners is only a short drive away for me. Looks like it isnt far from G&A precision rifles.

Great shooting!
And killer rifle man, I think the Mausingfield has to be one of the best actions on the market.

Have you tried any of the 230gr Bergers yet? I know alot of guys that shoot F-class and they swear by them. Usually with Varget, but I know a few successful guys that are using H4895.

These are the heaviest I have shot. I see a lot of talk about the Berger 200 20x

I like Varget with everything, but .223 and .308 SMKs really work
Remind me what you use for .223 (69 grain SMK, or whatever bullet...) I have only used varget for .223, but will have a .308 once it comes off backorder,

I've used that on your recommendation before. I thought you were saying you didnt like Varget for .223. Always looking for a better load!

The only way I could get groups that consistent is if I put the end of the barrel right against the bullseye

Totally depends on the day for me. Sometimes I cant not shoot a tight group, somedays Im all over the place :)

Sometimes (usually) it takes me several rounds to get settled in and shooting consistently. Today it was 20 rounds before I got comfortable. Managed to record this group as my last of the day at 200 yards

Chrono data looked good but I’d feel better if I was getting 50 more FPS

Tomorrow I’m going to try this load at 500 and see how it does

Got to the range today and decided to shoot a 20 shot string on this 12” target at 500 yards. I think this 185g Berger load will work. I still think the 180g SMK may be a bit more accurate

No wind was my friend
