.308 to 30-06 loads

Personally I don't see anything wrong with doing what you were originally thinking. If you take the same bullet and powder charge out of a 308 and load it in a 30-06 all you are going to have is a slightly reduced load. Worst case scenario you might have a squib or a hang fire.

Do you realize how much work it is to pull 120 rounds of .308 and try and transfer the primers, all the powder and the bullets into a 30-06 case? It is so much easier to sell off the .308 ammo and either buy 30-06 ammo or components to load your own 30-06 ammo. Remember, this is factory 308 ammo so it's easy to sell. Why do all that work for what will be less than perfect 30-06 ammo?
 
Yeah, I've pulled bullets before. I agree it would be a lot of work, but not unsafe.
 
I wish I had 120, just looked and saw that I might have 60, maybe 50ish, so unless my gunsmith wants to trade for some 30-06 brass, I'm going to pull them.
