4064, it is the powder tha Federal is using for their match loads. Go to Snipershide.com and see that it is the powder of choice for most 1000 meter shooters.
42 grains of Reloder 15 with a 168 Grain Sierra Match King and Federal 210M match primers is a combo my Savage absolutely loves.
And if I'm remembering correctly it comes closest to duplicating the Federal match ammo. It's the most accurate load per the Sierra manual. It comes out to about 2600 fps.
Edited to add that I didn't see three feather's post about 4064. I'll have to look into that, didn't know Federal used 4064 in their match ammo. Good information as usual on THR!
Here are shots 20 - 24 out of the new Remington 700P using 748 , Federal match primers , Winchester brass and the Sierra 168 match bullet. Looks promising!
How much 748 did you use in that load? I've got a 700VS in .308, lots of fire-formed Win cases, lots of 168 MKs and some of the 210M primers - and one unopened can of 748. I'd be very happy with that group, and I'd like to try to duplicate the results.
Yes , they were new cases. I used to own a VS in .308. Sold it and regretted doing so many times! A friend of mine has a 700P in .308 and I fired it a few times and really got the .308 bug again! Then this 700P came my way! I am hanging on to this one!
Grassy @ss - I'll load up a few lots from a grain less to a grain more, and see which one does best in my rifle. I will, of course, check the Sierra manual before loading any of it - just in case, you know - but thanks for the info. It should save me a bunch of time in load development.
I'll let you know in about a week or so how I did. I won't be shooting that this weekend, but next weekend is another story.
