Rented one of these just to see if I liked it and it was BRUTAL!!!
3 shots were enough to know it wasn't for me. Call me a lollipop if you'd like but it was just unpleasant to shoot.
It's a shame too because it sure is a sexy little gun.
I have a 642 that I enjoy shooting non +P with and occasionally run some buffalo bore +P through it just to keep me on my toes.

LOVE mine. Carry it in a ankel holster, and it is so light I have to keep 'bumping' it to make sure it is still there. I load mine with +P's. Still ain't plesent, but it is manageable.

The weight makes it great.
Nothing carries better in a pocket.
Mine is loaded with Buffalo Bore 125 +P's.

Personally, I love them. They make a great carry gun. And with .38's, it's not too bad. It is sharp with .357 magnum loads, but heck, it isn't a go shoot a box of hot ammo gun.

And because I hate threads with no pictures:

you're a lollipop! :neener:

yeah it has a sharp recoil but it's a sd gun and that's it. One shouldn't expect it to be fun to shoot. It's light and it carries light while still packina big punch. That's the beauty of the gun.

I love the gun...I carry it with .145 Grain Winchester Silvertips .357 mags and that all I shoot out of it.....Does it hurt?...My daddy always said "it stops hurting when you stop shooting....make sure you shoot it till it don't shoot anymore".... in this case it's only 5 times...Piece of Cake!!! cause I shoot mine 100-200 rounds each range session...First week I did that it was drawing blood from my fingers (nothing that band aids didn't cure)...but after owning the 340 for awhile I don't feel it anymore....I think my hands are nerve dead...LOL.... My only suggestion is to get a shooting glove when you first start out with it after a couple of weeks you won't need it anymore....Doc:D

340PD in .357

The problem with this gun and the 360 PD is that they come with Hogue bantum grips. If you put the larger Hogue grips on the gun it is much more manageable and comfortable to shoot. The downside to the larger grips is they make the gun a bit harder to conceal.

The Speer Short Barrel 125 Gr .357 load is a great balance in power and recoil manageability. Plus I figure if you're going to carry it, might as well fill all the space to your advantage.

"...it was BRUTAL!!!...you're a lollipop!..." You're not. It weighs 12 ounces. Less than a pound. Did you expect light felt recoil?
"...in an ankle holster..." Bad place for it. Too hard to get at in a hurry.
Like MassMan says, change the grips. 2" Model 19/66's were the same. Wee grip frames('J' frame grip on a 'K' frame) that became much better with different grips. Doubt it'd help with a 12 oz. .357 revolver though.

I own the MP340 and have installed the CT laser grips with the rubber overmold and it helps tame the recoil a bit. I will admit, I'm no lolipop but the little 340 with full-house .357 is a bit much at first. The cylinder release bit me more than a few times

This question comes up frequently. Read and heed this:

Couple of excerpts:

I WISH EVERYONE WHO WAS GOING TO CARRY CONCEALED WAS FORCED TO SHOOT A FEW BOWLING PIN MATCHES, or shoot some IDPA or ICORE matches! ... It is better to learn it here than learn OJT with a thug who is trying really hard to kill you before you can kill him ... You'll learn to shoot as fast as you can, but with utter accuracy (pins approximate the vital heart lung area of a person, and are set chest high at TEN YARDS).... MOST IMPORTANTLY . . . You'll learn that too powerful a load in a handgun that's too light will make you LOSE when you go up against other competitors . . . or against thugs too.

Those flame-throwing, hard-kicking .357 snubbies are gonna twist the gun to weird angles in your grip, causing the remaining shots to be off target due to improper grip. They'll also kick hard and hurt your hand like hell, and take MUCH longer between rounds to get the subsequent shots off! And yes, you'll have a much poorer chance to walk away from a real fight because of your chosen gun (a super-light snubbie) and too stout-kicking of a load!

Mine is at the smith and wesson service center getting repaired but when i get mine back I'm gonna carry it with .38p+. i can handle the .357 just as well imo but I can only imagine how bad of a muzzle flash that would have coupled with possible hearing loss from touching the gun off in a house and/or in the dark.

I have a 340pd and I love it. I carry it every were which is nice because I can't carry a heavier pistol in my pants with my current medical problem.
