.380 ammo? Anybody finding any?

For some reason there's an almost abundant amount out by me now. For the longest time there was none. The last I saw it was $28 for a box of Fiocchi(spelling?).

I haven't seen any .380 ammo of any stripe in Oregon since shortly after Christmas. I check three area WallyWorlds two to three times a week, along with a Sportsman's Warehouse and the local gun shops ... nothing. Even the self-defense .380 has disappeared. If folks are seeing any light at the end of the ammo tunnel, they aren't looking in my neck of the woods.

I don't have to 'find any'.

Just reload. You can find slugs, brass, primers, powder, dies, presses, etc... on the net.

I have 500 95gr FMJ, a coffee can full of brass, dies, powder, primers, and my Lee turrent press has a spare turrent (4 of them in all) so I can switch anytime to load the .380s.

Reload and stop looking. Only idiots pay a buck a shot for .380s.

I have no trouble finding .380 in central PA, ever. I didn't know there was a shortage until I read it here.

amazing how 380 is the biggest supply demand item out there
that many people want pocket guns?

All I have in .380 in my Bersa Thunder .380, but I've got a 2 gallon bucket completely FULL to the top with cleaned and polished .380 brass, several thousand primers, and many thousands of assorted boolits, FMJ's, JHP's and LRN's. Once I get 'em all stuffed and boxed, I should be good to go for awhile.

not much of it down here, not even a lot of the guns floating around personally looking for one for a family member

none anywhere

was over in St. Louis this past week and stopped at Bass Pro and Cabelas and they had nothing in 380, 9mm 45 and 40 cal. NOTHING.

My local wal mart got 5000 rounds of WWB 100 pak 9mm in last friday morning and by 9 PM that nite they were out. They haven't had any 380 in 3 months...

I haven't been able to get my hands on any for 6 months. None in my area. So I decided to start reloading, if I want to continue practicing with my .380. The only solution that I have found. You'll save a ton of money this way, if everywhere else is like it was here (was meaning, when I could buy it), 380 was always more expensive to buy factory ammo than 9mm anyways. Of course, YMMV. ;)

Picked up 650 rounds a week ago in a local gun store at about $3.00 a hundred more than I was paying last year. It is starting to reappear at many locations. The hoarders are easing up on buying and it will be back in the near future at a decent price point.

The last time I saw any was in mid-January when I bought two boxes of Fiocchi for $12.99 each at a local gun shop. Should have bought more.

I have plenty of .380acp on hand. My method has been to always keep some on back-order with a couple of online sources. It comes to me regularly that way.
I did finally see some .380 "Critical Defense" locally last week. Limit of one $23.99+tax box per customer. It's the first .380acp I have actually seen available locally for a few months.

I feel very lucky, I have 2 rounds left for my P3AT. By the time my next order comes in my seeing eye dog will be shooting it

380 ???

I have been looking high and low in the Philly-Lancaster area of PA and can't find any. However I have some on back order with Cabela's and it appears there wait time is down to 1 to 2 weeks for some brands (3 to 4 weeks before). Spoke with them on the phone today, say they will be in, and they have been getting them. Jusy bought the Desert Eagle 380, need to break it in.

I haven't seen any around here (Orlando metro area) for at least four or five months. What really sucks is that my primary CCW is a Sig P232SL, which is a .380. All I have is two mags of JHP defense ammo. I haven't practiced with it since mid October, when I ran through the last of my WWB target stuff.

9mm Parabellum and .40 S&W are starting to show again intermittently, as are 7.62x39, 5.56/.223 and some other centerfire calibers. However, I haven't seen any .45 ACP for at least as long as the .380 has been missing.

$300 seems a bit steep. May be .50 cal, I get them confused all the time.

Local walmart has rifle ammo, even a few boxes of bulk 223. Haven't seen any pistol ammo but the occasional box of 357 sig, or 44mag. Nothing 9mm or 380 for a long time.

I did happen to buy all the 22 federal bulk ammo when they got it though. My mark was hungry, and even 22 is hard to find.

"They throw out people that try to buy up all the ammo"

Geez! I thought people that bought your stuff kept you in business? Man, this aint the same country I grew up in!
Yeah, the gouging is getting outta control
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAA.

OK, folks. There are three ways to deal with limited supply:

1. Raise prices.

2. Ration supply.

3. Run out.

We have seen all three in action. Until store managers develop the ability to go into the bathroom and defecate a case of .380, or until supply catches up, one of these three things is going to happen. Griping about rationing, griping about price, and griping about empty shelves is about as productive as griping about gravity. Think of supply/demand as a law of nature. Don't complain about inertia, don't complain about the effects of diminished supply. WalMart keeps low prices (still), and their shelves are bare. Some places have low prices and stuff in stock, but limit you to a box or two. Some places have stock, and want $49.99 for a box of 50 FMJ. It's a law of nature.

Economics 101.

That said, I still have 3 boxes of 50 .380 jhp by Prvi Partizan for $30 each plus shipping. See the market forces at work?

I have an LCP on layaway.....I've been calling every Dick's Sports, Gander Mountain, Wal-Mart AND the two Cabela's (2+hrs away) in FOUR DIFFERENT STATES!!
NOTHING!!!:cuss:

Like hitting gold

I found some in Philly at a local gun shop. Bought some american eagle and gold saber, price was a little high. But glad they had it. And surprised. The guy had some left but not too much. If I was smart I would have cleaned him out. I am hearing the 380 drought is ending soon. Hate to over pay then be stuck with it. Hope it will last me until Cabela's comes through.

Depressing

I can't tell you how depressing it is to read through the entire history of this thread.

February: "I hear the .380 shortage will end soon."

March: "I hear the .380 shortage will end soon."

April: "I hear the .380 shortage will end soon."

May: "I hear the .380 shortage will end soon."

I know we're all frustrated, but this is reeeeeeally baffling. I live less than 20 miles away from Olin Manufacturing in Alton, IL, a Winchester ammo maker. And there still is bupkiss .380 out there, and darn little 9mm. One local independent shop was selling WWB .380 50s for $28. Yes, I bought both boxes I was allowed.

So there's a run on ammo in the U.S.. Fine. But there's no shortage in Europe. There's no shortage in the Eastern Block countries. You're telling me that the Italian and Russian ammo makers have a thirsty market where they can sell every bit of merchandise they can press at top dollar, and the Italians and the Russians (and everybody else) said, "Ehn. Whatever. Keep stamping the 6.5x55 for the Swiss. Pass the vino, Tony." ???

It just doesn't make any sense.

The imports should have flooded in by now.

I will say this. I wasn't a big Cabela's fan before. But I will remember Cabela's and Bass Pro and Walmart, and every retailer who didn't gouge me during the shortage. When it's over, I won't darken the doors of the shops that broke it off in me.

Enjoy your $, screw-charge independents. Enjoy.

I think it has taken everybody by surprise, all long time gun owners usually invest in a 9mm, .40/10mm, or .45 but the gun frenzy mania of 2009 has all these first time buyers wanting a supposedly small low recoil minimal protection gun thats usually less in price than standard calibers, thus the .380 guns have been flying off the shelves. And that caliber has usually been either used in Europe or as a backup gun has never been popular in the US and ammo has been minimal in production at best.

I still think there is a nationwide effort of groups that simply go out to buy ammo and they just haul it back to a huge warehouse to keep it off the market. Like little chipmunks gathering ACORNs.
