Do you mean a laser sight, i.e., an aid to aiming? I can't see why you would need to boresight a three-inch .380. But if you do wish to, I see no reason why one for a 9mm caliber (despite the moniker, both the .380 and 9mm Luger have the same bullet diameter at .355") would not work. It should not go inside the barrel so far that it would "bottom out" when it hits the slide breechface.
What I wanted to compare was the bore alignment vs the steel sights. In my 9 mm the steel sight was off to the left vs the barrel bore and in my 40 cal the sights were dead on with the bore at 50 ft.
With my 308 the cartridge bore laser gave me a point at 100 yards and I just set the scope to zero the laser point. After that I set my BDC for 308 and away I went.
The 9 mm bore sight will not fit a 380 chamber so I am still looking for one before I create one.
I used a .223 boresighter inserted into the fixed barrels' chamber. I used mylar tape to enlarge the boresighter to provide a snug fit. Why? To align my Crimson Trace Laser. I usually use an arbor boresighter on my larger caliber pistols.
