My favorite load for .44 Mag uses AA#5, WLP, and a 240gr JSP bullet. I get 1220 FPS and great accuracy. For what ever reason AA#5 is not available off the shelf at any gunshop in the OKC area (at least not that I can find) and I really don't want to pay $20 bucks extra to have it shipped to me.

A little investigation revealed Hodgdon's HS-6 is a similar powder but loads for it in .44Mag don't seem to be easy to find.

My Lyman manual doesn't list any at all. On the internet handload sights I use the listed HS-6 loads seem to be somewhat contradictory.

So - anyone use HS-6 with .44 Mag? If so what specs? i.e. load, primer and OAL? Not interested in lead bullet loads. Mainly I'm looking for loads that use jacketed 240gr bullets.

PM me if you hesitate to post your load publicly.

Hodgdon data from their website:

http://www.hodgdon.com/data/pistol/44remmag.php

(max load here, beware, use at your own risk, blah blah)

HS-6 15.1gr 1417fps 38,200CUP NOS240grJHP

A starting point for a 240gr JSP like you described might be about 13.5-14.0grains. That's what I would do if I were in your shoes, and then work up from there looking for pressure.

Let us know how it works out!:)
