I just shot a box of Winchester White box in 240 gr. to get some brass for reloading. I measured all the spent brass to see what length it was and it measured at 1.271 to 1.273. All my eloading books say trim to 1.280. Are these cases ok to reload? I'm a little sceptical!!!

Just measured a sample case of mine .. twice fired .... at 1.276" ..... you need not IMO have ANY worries at all ...... the 1.280 is for me a max ... under that no probs...... daresay mine will ''stretch'' some more with use and then maybe a trim needed.
OAL is way more important cos this is a rimmed case and no headspace probs to worry about....... 1.610" is usually quoted for OAL. In fact in my old redhawk, I exceeded this too quite often cos of the load I used and the bullet profile .... in a revo, if it fits cylinder it'll be good!
Never tried .44 mag in a DE - daresay that might be more critical.

I've went through 1000's of 44 mag reloads. Never trimmed any or had any any problems. P95 is correct in being able to exceed max COAL, if it fits in cylinder, you're good to go.
Right, I never measure my handgun brass. Actually I have measured a piece here and there just out of curiosity, but it isn't that critical, especially in a revolver. It will still work if it is too long in a revolver, and even if it is short the .44 Mag revolver will shoot .44 Specials so short is OK too.

HiCap, did you measure before or after sizing? (not trying to be a smart aleck). All of my .44 Mag brass started out as Win. white box, and after sizing (the measurement you want) it usually measured 1.280+. I trim to 1.275. The trim length is not as important (as long as it is within speck) as triming your cases to the same length, so you get a uniform crimp on all your loaded rounds.
