44 mag loads a good moderate load fun load for plinking is what I am looking for any help guys

I use this'n over and over :

215gn GCHP
8.0-10gns Unique ( depends on rifle or revolver, but I've started doing them all at 10grns thanks to a longer barreled wheelgun now)

CCI LPP

You can use it behind a 240g lead bullet, I do that too.

I've also used it at 9 grs behind a jacketed 240, and it shoots real good.

That load is all over every load manual ever, so tear it up !

8 grs is of course softer, 10 is more firm- but still no where near full tilt.

I like a 240 SWC over Unique. I load a little heavier than a top 44 Special load but no where near maximum for 44 magnum. I load them in a 44 Magnum case.

200 or 240 LRNFP sitting on top of 6.6gns of Tightgroup. I still need to chrono them but these should be moving along at 1050 to 1100fps. Recoil wise it feels like what I would expect a .44Spl +P to sort of feel like.

I just checked and the new Hodgdon website has entries for a 200gn LRNFP cast bullet that shows 6.6gns of Tightgroup as the suggested max charge. It lists it at 1060fps and 17,300CUP. So it confirms that it's a fairly low pressure round but still well over a .44Spl for both pressure and speed. And WAAAAYYYYY down from the >30K CUP pressures for jacketed Magnum loads.

I find these to be sporty but not punishing to shoot.

Moderate to me suggests A2400. I have tried 18.8 gr, and my notes indicate it as "very good". I use PowerPro 300-MP for moving up the scale of performance. 20.7 gr was good with 240 gr SJSP but needed 21.7 for a better impression with 240 gr XTP. I have no chronograph or other data, just subjective impressions with published load ranges.

8-9 grs of unique with a 240-250 gr swc bullet is pleasant to shoot, and yet stout enough to handle something tougher than a target if need be.

240 gr plated or 250 grain lead on 6 gr (very light; .44 Special pressure) or 8 gr (still moderate, but more magnumish) HP-38, or same bullets with 7 grains either Trail Boss or Red Dot.

I've tried using very light bullets (165-190 grain) and didn't like it much, because the POI was about 8 inches lower at 25 yards than with 250s. IMHO, in revolvers powder and velocity have a fairly small effect on POI, while bullet weight seems to affect POI more drastically.

240 lead bullet over max load of trail boss. Which would be 7.3 grains. You could just stick with 7.

I use 10.0gr of Unique with a 240 LSWC, I used to use 8.0 for lighter but now that I have dedicated 44 specials I shoot them if I want something lighter than 10.0.

I never could get unique to work for me in the .44 magnum.
