I recently purchased a Marlin 1894 S 44 REM Mag. The ammo that came with it is a mixture of 44 Rem Mag and 44 Mag. What are the differences if any?

I don't know what a .44 Rem Mad is! :D
But .44 Magnum, .44 S&W Magnum, and .44 Remington Magnum is the same thing.

Seriously, the .44 Rem Mag first came out in 1956.
It was a joint development by S&W (gun) and Remington (ammo for the gun).

Remington registered the trademark for the .44 Remington Magnum name.
S&W registered the trademark for the .44 S&W Magnum name.

Today, the trademarks have expired, or at least are no longer strictly enforced, and either one or all is the same thing.
Just like it always was.

Except for the .44 Mad.

There is no difference but you are being wise to confirm that, a lot of cartridges sound very nearly the same but are not.

Thanks for the replies everyone. As for the Mad well fat fingeritise struck again LOL! The specks on the cases appeared to be the same but didn't know enough about this cartridge so had to ask.

Looks like this will be a fun forum.
