Does anyone reload 45-70 and would consider selling a box? I would like to try something a little hotter than tha available factory ammo for bear hunting. I shoot a Ruger #1 so the added pressure is not a problem.

Most people won't sell their reloads since if anything bad happened (like the rifle blew up), regardless of why, they might be held legally liable:uhoh:. You can set up for reloading 45/70 for not that much using Lee equipment. Or, if a friend reloads, buy a set of dies and work with them to reload and learn. It adds a whole new dimension of fun to shooting.

Selling ammo without a licence isn`t prudent. I also would be very leery about shooting ammo from a stranger. I won`t shoot ammo my friends load or offer them loads I`ve put together.
Try this link if you want "hot" ammo. The stuff is factory pressure tested and as "hot " as you likely will want to shoot.

BTW a old black powder 405gr 45-70 load will shoot stem to stern through a bison. How big are these bear you plan on shooting?

I use to reload 45/70, no longer have the rifle & reloading stuff.
Larger bore, hotter rounds isnt always better.

Slow moving is sometime more effective.

I used alot of Unique powder & IMR.

If your hunting black bears the 405 gr remington factory load will work fine. You could also try to locate a box of buffalobore, garrett or cor bon ammo.

Can you buy Ammo mail-order in Ohio? If so try Cabelas they carry Buffalo Bore or you can download an order form from Buffalo Bore.com Their website list more info for 45-70 than the rest of their ammo, including the type of game it's best for ie the 300gr Speer Unicore for game to 600lbs expander load...Garrett is good stuff but most shops here have a hard time getting it, no one seems to stock it, the price of Randy G. doing it all himself I think...

Call me paranoid but I would not shoot a strangers handloads...

Any check out Buffalo Bores website lotta neat stuff...

Cor-Bon sells some hot 45/70 loads. Most of their stuff will run you between $30 & $40 a box.

PMC cataloged a 45/70 loading that pretty much duplicated .450Marlin ballistics and that generally sold for under $20 a box. It's still on the PMC webpage but Midway say's it's been discontinued. You may be able to find some if you poke around...

Buffalobore sells some pretty hot loads.

Here's some really good stuff if you got the $$. http://www.garrettcartridges.com/products.asp

The Hunting Shack catalogs a few hot loads and their prices seem reasonable.

Never heard of these folks before now, but here you go:
