Wouldnt that be nice, i suppose it would have to be a custom job, i wonder if you could even do it?

It would go nice with my 1911 and think of the capacity! I bet you could do it, maybe use a .45 long colt lever gun for it.

Why not get a Marlin Camp 45 in .45 ACP? That is the best companion for your 1911 since is uses the same magazines. It is a semi-auto carbine and is great. Unfortunatly they are not made anymore but you can still find them out there.

:what: And miss the fun of the .45Colt???? :scrutiny:

Seriously I know where you're coming from. I like having a lever with my Vaquero and having one with my 1911 would be appropriate as well. Guess I'll have to make do with an FAL instead :D

I think the bigger problem would be that someone would stick standard ball in the tube mag, blow himself or herself up and sue everyone. :fire:

"I think the bigger problem would be that someone would stick standard ball in

Which is why Ed Harris would not even report chronograph readings for hardball in his custom '94 Marlin. I have read of his and one other. It can be done, Marlin extractors will handle rimless cases, but it won't be cheap.

I recall reading (15 years ago?)about a guy that had one built, or I guess converted, is the right term. He used a Marlin 44 mag and had the barrel re-bored. I don't know what was done to the bolt face/extractor/ejector to make it work with the slighhtly smaller rim/base size of the 45 auto case compared to the 44 (or 45 colt) I think the rimless case would be fine, the round headspaces on the case mouth. Marlin builds 35 Remington guns, I can't figure how the rimless case would be a problem.

I think there was a thread about this on leverguns forum not too long ago, a search over there, and check the archive box when you search, may turn up some referal to the article or other useful info.

It seems like more trouble than it's worth. There's no way .45 ACP will have the same power boost out of a levergun that you find with .357 Mag or .44 Mag. Plus, I would not feel good about hardball .45 smaking around in a tube mag

I believe that the bolt would be a relatively simple proposition. Install a recessed case head design, similar to the one for rimless rifle cartridge, and a Sako-type extractor.

As a matter of fact, the rifle already exists with some modifications. Get a Browning BLR in '06 or .308, change the barrel with one for the .45 ACP, or even .45 Win Mag. Install a magazine block to restrict the magazine to the proper width, or simply block the magazine and install a narrow spring and follower.

I'd love to have a 9mm lever, but I suppose a lever in .357/38 will have to do. It would be like shooting a .22!

I dont think it would be a prob. but.....

You'd need to use .45 auto rim. Head space is not the problem here
with traditional tube mags the shell stop uses the rim to stop the cartridge
from being pushed thru by the force of the mag spring, racking the lever
releases the shell stop, and lowers he lifter (terminology?) to pick up the next
cartridge. With out it a round could slip thru and get wedged under the
shell lifter (a lever removing job to fix). Now you could design something
that used 1911 mags protruding from the bottom of the action.....but
that would just be wrong :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf:

Do you think .45 ball is pointy enough to do that?

I can see 9mm FMJ causing detonation of the primer in front of it, but .45 seems much more rounded.

Probably not, it's not like we're talking spire points or as you point out pointy 9mm's. But there is a wide variety of .45 loadings out there and I'm sure some Darwin-Award-Wannabe would find it. Not that I would mind, gotta keep the Darwin Awards coming after all.... But likely the slim chance is enough that it would keep anyone from actually producing one.

As for actually making one at home I can't help but wonder about reaming a .45Colt out enough to make room for a chamber insert to fit the ACP round. That'd probably be easier than reworking the extractor and adjusting the carrier. Would be a cool adventure with a little Rossi 92.

Alternatively I'd be just as glad to have something like Taurus's Thunderer properly scaled to fit the .45ACP. Some how a pump seems a more appropriate companion to a 1911 :D

This was the subject of another thread. Winchester made some '94s for South American Policia a while ago. Someone was selling one. I'll see if I can dig up a listing.

As far as a magazine detonation, a levergun in 30/30 has a way pointier bullet than a 45 or 9mm. It also generates a lot more recoil...no problems there at all.

why not just use a 45LC lever gun as it is?
What's the fun in that? :D

There are some folks who don't like to buy/own 'off the rack'...
Because then it wouldnt be the perfect companion for your 1911 .45 acp.
It also wouldn't match a Smith 25... :neener:
