For financial reasons, had to sell my .45 pistols. Wife and I are both back at work, and have a bunch of .45 reloads laying around. What's the consensus on the best .45 carbine for HD? I don't want to hear about 9m/m being more available or cheaper, yada yada. We want a .45 carbine, end of story.

Hi Point. Cheap and accurate, and so ugly no one will steal it.

They are cheap and accurate. I actually did have one stolen a few years back. Apparently they weren't concerned with cosmetics.

CX4... uses an 8 round 8045 Cougar magazine, which is a drawback, but SierraPapa has just released an extension to bump capacity to 16.

I own the 9mm version and have been extremely happy with it.

I'll have to try that, the mag capacity is the only drawback to the CX4 in .45.

I have a HP carbine in .40, and it's been a great carbine. I wouldn't hesitate to use it for h/d, but I don't keep it prepped for that. I have an M1 carbine for that duty. But my 4095 is accurate and reliable, shoots anything I've put in it.

My brother is shooting one of the Masterpiece Arms Mac carbines in 45. Came with scope mount, uses cheap grease gun mags, is accurate and reliable...win all around.

As has been mention the Mech Tech works very well also, just have to supply a lower from a 1911 or preferable a Glock with it's higher capacity mags. I have one for a 1911 frame and it works great as well as being very accurate. Of course having a 28 round drum helps when it comes to mag capacity on it.

If they'd build it in NH (where they are making a commercial / civilian version of the 416) so it could use UMP mags - or make a semi-auto 16" bbl UMP - it would be great. No doubt it's a nice carbine, but it's quite expensive for something that uses proprietary 10 round mags.

At least with the Cx4 using the Cougar mags you can get a new .45 Cougar for $450 w/ 4 mags. Plus the Cx4 is about half the price of the USC.

The HK USC can be easily converted to a UMP configuration minus the select fire. It's not hard to do but it aint cheap either. But if done, it is by far the best .45 carbine available to civilians.

Another vote for the hi-point .45. My Father-in-laws GF has a hi-point .45 with a bushnell TRS-25 mounted on it as her HD rifle (she also has a NEF youth 20ga and a 4" S&W M10). The hipoint is butt ugly but very accurate and reliable. For $300 it is also a pretty decent deal.

I would think the Beretta CX4 Storm would fit the bill

It would, but I found them to have a rather unpleasant recoil impulse. And if you have facial hair, expect a twinge now and again when it gets caught between the stock and recoil pad.

I sold mine a couple years back, don't regret it. It was a cool gun in many ways, but I didn't enjoy it very much for the aforementioned reasons.

Neat gun, but rather spendy ($1,600 last I saw)

If you can find one don't forget the Camp 45 from Marlin. Takes 1911 mags too.

That'd be my recommendation, too. Of the pistol caliber autoloaders I've had, this is the only one that remains in my collection. Nice looking, sweet shooting, and the 1911 mag compatibilty is a definite plus. The 15 rounders have worked well in my Camp 45. Should easily be able to find one for under $500 in good shape. I paid $325 for mine in perfect condition 9 years ago.

Do you have an AR-15? I believe there are a few manufacturers that make .45 acp uppers.

Go to AR15.com and search for Ronald Williams. He has good reviews for his .45ACP DI AR15.

I wish Marlin would re-introduce their Camp Carbine in .45acp but using Glock magazines.

"I would go with the Kriss Vector. Takes the 13 round Glock magazines, so you would have the raved reliability about Glock, and Kriss sells a 17 round extension which would give you 30 rounds of 45 ACP power."

The raved reliability of glocks is about far more than the magazines. The KRISS is known to be extremely finicky with what ammo it will feed reliably. In fact I've heard reports of people having trouble with it feeding anything reliably. The recoil reducing system of a KRISS is cool but completely lost on a semi-auto IMO. The gun is far too expensive for what one gets from the semi-auto configuration.
