I just loaded and shot my Uberti cattleman with SIX 5 gr Trail Boss and a 250 gr LRNFP bullets with CCI Lg Pistol Primers and it was a perfect load. I think that I'm hooked for this load since it is much cleaner and less brutal on the guns.
I have been using 8.0 and 8.2 gr Unique and thought I'd give this a try.
TB measured nicely and consistently from my Lee Perfect Powder Measure.
I never opened a bottle of this Trail Boss until today and thought that it was going to be way more "fluffy" than it actually is.
I have three 45 Colt Uberti's and I like them so much that I am going to baby them with this powder from now on. I have 44 spl and 44 mag revolvers and a lever gun in 44 mag if I wanna pound lead a little harder.
So this is kinda nice for relaxing shooting. I may adjust a bit either way on the powder to find the best accuracy later but these seem to be right on.

What kind of accuracy did you get and at what distance? I have a new version Vaquero in 45 I typically use for BP cartridges. Might try some Trail Boss loads in it when I am too lazy to clean the gun and cases. :D

My other 45 Colts, a Blackhawk and a Contender, will last for generations with any sane loads. One f the reasons I like the cartridge so much is its versatility. It can go from pop gun to bunker buster.

For just fun plinking and target shooting, try the 200 gr. RNFP bullet and 5.5 to 6.0 grains of TrailBoss. I use that in both my Ruger Blackhawks and Marlin Cowboys. It's surprising how accurate it can be, too.

It's also a great bullet for the .45 acp, so it gets triple duty in my shop.

Hope this helps.

I just shot down the hill at a 9x9 " metal target at about 35 yds and I could see they were hitting close. LOL. I was just holding freehand. Next time I go to the range, I'll post a target pic.

I have some 200 gr coated. I'll keep that in mind.

Glad you like your Trail Boss loads.

I'm curious, if you wanted a lighter load, why didn't you just back off the Unique another grain or so?

The 200 grain LCN with 6.0 of trailboss goes 743 fps average in a Vaquero. 6.0 grans and a 230LFN averages 778 with a slightly better SD
