I am just getting into reloading, starting off with a Lee Classic Handloading kit, 250gr lead, and IMR Trail Boss... I can't seem to find a load chart for Trail Boss through Lee... I did a test batch using one 7cc dipper load, and they fired like a heavy .22 round.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

get a scale. trailboss bulk density is about .33 grams/cc which is about 5 grains per cc
lyman lists 5.3ish to 5.8ish load range. if you used only 0.7cc ...

A scale is a necessity. You can get yourself into a lot of trouble if you don't have one. It's the one thing that gets used every time I reload because I always double check powder charges for not only the right amount but for any variation. It's the next thing you need to buy before you reload any more ammo. Be safe.

Thanks Lee, that confirms what I was figurin'... one scoop woulda been about 3.5gr. D'oh! Scale is next on my shopping list, thanks guys.

Remember: The scale doesn't have to be new. Ohaus has been supplying great mechanical balance scales accurate to 0.1gr for 30+ years to Hornady, RCBS, Lyman and other reloading manufacturers. You can find these on CraigsList or Ebay at really good prices.

also remember that bulk density figures can vary quite a bit, on the order of 10-20%, between lots.

dippers are simple, fast, and work great with all types of powders, not just ball powders, but they do need to be "calibrated" beforehand (against a properly calibrated scale!)
