I was reading an article that said the .458 Lott will stop any DG, large bears in an all out charge, DEAD in their tracks, when hit African DG act as if they were hit by a death ray.
And if a bear charges, I will never try to figure if it is serious, not enough time or surety no matter what any of these Grizzly Adams "bear whisperers types that frequent some of these forums say.
Anyone own one of these.

I want the bear to fear me;)

I do not own a .458, but I do have Marlin 45-70 loaded up with Garrett .540 gr. bear busters.
I don't play poker, and bluff or not, if I get charged I will bust him wide open.

Considering the .458 Lott was designed to kill Rinoceri (which weight 3 or 4 tons) I think you're good on a half a ton bear.

I've got a Ruger #1 in 458 Lott. It's decently powerful and super accurate. The only hunting I have done with it so far is on varmints. Wasn't as effective as a 223, but I think that was mainly because the bullets I was using weren't expanding.
