I only caught bits and peices so I hope someone can fill me in and let me know if I actually heard what I think I did.

In a nutshell, some guy gets fed up with what he percieves as judicial tyranny, and attemts or succeeds in assasinating a judge or judges. They find some letters he wrote, or possibly a manifesto outlining said perceptions, and even infringement of 2nd amendment rights are mentioned.

Also, today I'm learning that the female cop suggests putting out an APB on someone in a Tom DeLay T-shirt.

If this all really happened, it sounds a push by the left to make those who recognize the usurping of power by the judiciary as the stereotypical Unibomberesque whack job. They reallllly want to push this message hard if they are beginning to use primetime crime drama TV shows as vehicles for it.

law & order has always been very anti 2A. They even did an episode where NYC brought murder charges against a gun maker for making a Tec 9 like gun that wable to be converted to full auto very easily and won the case but the judge tossed the verdict. The director made sure to show everyones objections to the judge as the last thing you saw.

I know all this cuz my wife is addicted to the show. She likes the drama and could care less of the political implications, BTW, she also like to watch Oprah. :barf:
 
Law and Order is about the most racist show on TV, maybe ever in the history of American entertainment.

In 99% of the episodes, the guilty party is a white man, usually a businessman or professional. Of course, being racist against whites is just fine and dandy, and we all know that business is the root of all evil in the universe.

This incident doesn't suprise me in the least. If the show was any more left leaning, your TV would fall right off the stand.
 
L&O (all 3 versions) is just the cops and lawyers version of "The West Wing." :barf: I see way too much of it passing by while my wife veges in front of it.
 
I can't speak to L&O:CI, since I've only seen a couple episodes of it, and didn't care for how it was done.

As for the original Law & Order series, though, accusing it of as much bias as people are doing here seems uncalled for. Certainly, it takes gun registration for granted, and portrays the police and the DAs using it quite often in criminal investigations. On the other hand, I've also seen plenty of episodes where the guy to whom the gun was registered isn't the guilty party, or that the gun wasn't registered to anyone. And the show is, after all, set in NYC, so I don't think it's unreasonable of them to portray gun registration as a tool used by law enforcement.

I've also seen an awful lot of episodes that came down strongly in favor of the death penalty, which isn't exactly a leftist/liberal position. Jack McCoy pretty reliably takes a very strong anti-crime and anti-criminal stance also not characteristic of the left, and he's generally portrayed as being in the right. Or at least, portrayed in a neutral enough fashion that I can perceive him being portrayed as right.

I don't see it as being a crusade for conservatism, but I don't think it's the bastion of liberal thought that some people here seem to think. And certainly not in comparison to all the other tripe on television.

Again, though, I can't speak to L&O:CI or L&O:SVU; I haven't watched those anywhere near enough to form an opinion on their political biases.

ETA: Oh, and one of the lines I most clearly remember from an episode comes after a jury has voted to acquit a man of murder. He had killed some pacifist who had insulted his KIA son for being a war monger. In any event, McCoy says something like he can't believe the guy was acquitted. The final line of the episode was the DA saying, "of course he was acquitted. The kind of person who dodges draft duty also dodges jury duty." Not exactly what I'd expect out of a show leaning so far left my TV's gonna hit the floor.

Thanks, NBC, I wouldn't know not to ignore my children or to not be a racist if it wasn't for your generous enlightenment. Anyone remember the one (I'm guessing about 10 yrs ago) with Noah Wyle (doc Carter) from ER saying "if it's for hunting, why's it called a Streetsweeper, sport?" (Had to look up the name, only remembered the face).

I have the same problem, if it wasn't for the wife the TV's only purpose would be a monitor for the Game Cube. Yeah, she likes Orpah too, it's on everyday when I get home. Nothing but celebrity worship. Double :barf:
 
I have to step up and say that I like Law & Order and it's spin off shows. Yes, there is a liberal bent to the show. However, the show is too complex to simply be written off as a liberal propeganda tool. It invites the viewer to apply their own ethical considerations in each episode, and while some of the characters, like the Eames character who makes the DeLay comment, sometimes show their liberal bent, other characters like DA Aurthur Branch (played by former Republican Senator Fred Thompson) bring in elements of conservative thought noticiably absent from other shows.

In this past episode, you certainly caught the ridiculous DeLay comment, but may have missed a couple other moments worthy of mention. When the detectives are interviewing the husband of the first slain judge, he says to them than after he realizes there are people in the house, he also realizes that he has no means of defending his family. And while the judges are the targets of the killer in this case, they are not depicted in a very good light. When the ADA is talking to the judge about the defendant being bailed out, the judge proposes an unethical legal manuver to raise his bail and keep him in jail. The ADA says that surely the court will not allow it as it violates the defendants rights and the judge says that he already talked to the other judges and says they will go along with it because the judge killed was "on our team." The ADA balks at this, saying that while he would love to keep the guy in jail, the constitution is more important to him, which makes the judge indignant. The ADA Vance character consistently has been shown as a stickler for legal protocol and doing things the right way.

My point is that unlike a lot of other shows on television, L&O is complex and balanced enough to allow the viewer to make decisions for themselves about the issues involved. The protagonists are not always in the right and often are not portrayed that way. Because all the series are in NYC, there is an anti undertone to some of the stories because of the real laws they have there regarding guns. But on the whole, the show is quite remarkable in it's ability to engage the viewer in thinking about legal and ethical issues of all varieties, which is probably the reason for it's success and staying power.

It really depends on where the "center" is defined. For the past 40 years, the MSM has been working to establish the perception that the center is now way left of where it used to be. That way, the new "center" is way left of where it used to be and the "extreme right" is what used to be center.

Maybe I just need to adjust my tin foil.
 
ok, another L&O thing, just like the last SVU episode, when the Reserve Vet/Police Officer shoots himself, he ckocks his Glock right before fireing. I notice that you distintice "click click" every time one of them draws or right before they shoot thier Glocks.

Ehh, shes alright. The real hottie was ADA Abbie Carmichael played by Angie Harmon in the original L&O. GOOD LORD! I've always had an eye for Jill Hennessy too (love those crazy Irish girls, /sigh).

oh yeah, L&O is actually a pretty well written show although the biases come through loud and clear. I just take it for what it is. TV fantasy. I enjoy the shows and leave them in my living room...where they belong.
 
I think the show actually makes LEOs look stupid since most shows start with them arresting the wrong person and almost forcing them to confess. On one episode Jerry Orbachs partner slammed a guy against a wall (who was innocent) for having an affair on his wife and come to find out he had an affair and was uptight because his wife left him. Oh wait cops busting on people and some of them do the same stuff? Perhaps they have a point.
